In the brand-new thrilling mystery from a #1 Amazon and International Bestselling author, Detective David Wolf is pulled to a high plateau in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, and to a murder case that will test every ounce of his character. When a sheriff's son is found dead in a neighboring county to the south, clues show foul-play. Led by the same sheriff now doubling as a father hell-bent on vengeance, the investigation turns violent, pushing the local district attorney north to Rocky Points for help. They need somebody with an outside perspective to lead the investigation, and Chief Detective David Wolf is just their man. Wolf has no pending investigations and there's a fellow man in law enforcement in need, so he has little reason to say no and every reason to say yes. However, it's not the sheriff who's asking for help. And as it turns out Wolf has a history on the football field with this sheriff-one involving a lot of pain for Wolf. Setting aside personal feelings, Wolf ventures south and gets tangled in a mysterious investigation, and finds a truth that is fractured, its pieces scattered wide by the explosive nature of the big man from the gridiron now wearing the badge in Crow Valley. Just as expected Wolf finds his presence is unwanted, but it's soon clear that innocent people are in mortal danger with the vigilante justice that's being doled out in Crow County, and there are unseen forces at play rendering all involved blind. With danger looming if he makes one misstep, can Wolf gather all the pieces of truth and stop the killing? Or will this be the time he dies trying? The David Wolf Mystery Thriller Series blazes ahead with an adventure mystery thriller that will keep you reading until the final page!

Even with a left leg shattered by a drug dealer's bullet and a medical retirement from the Detroit Police Force, former homicide captain Ed McAvoy feels he's too young to be put out to pasture. With the slower pace in the Catskills, being Chief of Police in Peekamoose Heights will be sort of like running a country club, or so he thinks. After all, how much crime can there be? McAvoy soon discovers that his skills as a homicide detective will not atrophy from lack of use in Peekamoose Heights. Murder, as it turns out, is an equal-opportunity crime that not only resides in large bustling cities like Detroit, but in sleepy little Catskill villages like Peekamoose Heights as well. In Forget Me Not, the seventh Ed McAvoy Mystery, a young reporter is found murdered in the forest near Peekamoose Heights. All indications point to the fact that he stumbled across a methamphetamine-making operation. But his current assignment had nothing to do with drugs. He was supposed to be writing a puff piece about German WWII POWs held in the area who had returned there to live after being repatriated. However, the reporter's girlfriend comes forward with a computer flash drive that shows he was actually working on an article about a fifteen-year-old disappearance of a mob informant. Almost immediately thereafter, the girlfriend disappears. And, there are known mobsters sniffing around the crime scene. Before McAvoy can begin to answer the question of 'Who murdered the reporter?' he must sort through the various theories of 'Why was the reporter murdered?'
The trucker who'd hit a Wrong Way sign lay hunched over the wheels of his semi-with his brains blown to bits, a revolver in his hand. Leo Jurczewsky had long talked of killing himself. So when Sheriff Karen Mehaffey and Detective Marek Okerlund are called to the Reunion, South Dakota, exit ramp to investigate his death, they're ready to wrap up the case. But it all goes wrong when the pathologist rules the gunshot wasn't self-inflicted. So was it homicide-or a twisted form of assisted suicide? Then someone starts leaving drawings of crosshairs-gun sights-for various leaders in town, including Karen. If that wasn't enough, word comes of the suicide of someone close to her. Meanwhile, Marek takes in a heavily pregnant runaway-who looks far too much like his dead wife. As Karen and Marek try to follow a killer's wrong turn, they both get an inkling of why life can become too much to bear.DEAD WRONG is a character-driven police procedural of a rural bent. Third in series. Word Count: 86,000. Occasional profanity. Minimal gore.

Murder, as it turns out, is an equal-opportunity crime that not only resides in large bustling cities like Detroit, but in sleepy little Catskill villages like Peekamoose Heights as well.In this exciting sequel to Stream of Death, McAvoy's friend Sam Douglas has bought a Queen Anne tall-case clock at auction-at a bargain price. Trading it to Kate Winthrop for her lesser-quality Massachusetts clock and then selling the Massachusetts to a third party sight unseen seems to bode well for the Catskill antique dealer-until the third party winds up dead and, in her dying breath, identifies Sam as her attacker.
For a moment, she looked as if she had turned to stone. Any slight twitches of her facial muscles ceased. Even her chest stopped rising and falling as she took in air. Everything went completely still, her eyes glazing as she stared down at the mug in her hands. A pause that lasted several seconds before she snapped her eyes upward and asked, "There were more?" "Yes.""How many?" When Reed Mattox and his K-9 partner, Billie, received a direct summons to the personal residence of Governor Thomas Cowan, he assumed it was another escalation over the particulars of their new position as liaisons between the Columbus Police Department and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Another overstep by the highest ranking elected official in Ohio, trying to bring Reed and Billie directly under his control. What he didn't expect was to enter the man's home and find that, not only was the case presented to them legit, but unlike anything they had ever seen. A friend and associate of the governor, kidnapped, sedated, and tattooed across the entire length of his forehead. PRIDE. A single word, with no clear cause or motivation, until a second victim turns up the next day. GREED, proceeded in order by SLOTH. The fabled seven deadly sins, branded on people from across the state. Victims with no obvious connection between. Knowing more attacks will come, Reed and Billie fling themselves headlong into a search unlike anything they've encountered before. A hunt that brings them in contact with people trying desperately to keep secrets from the past hidden. Secrets someone is fighting to make certain they never forget.

First published serially in 1868, Wilkie Collins's "The Moonstone" is generally considered as the first full length detective novel in the English language. The novel concerns a large valuable diamond plundered from India by Colonel Herncastle during the Siege of Seringapatam. Herncastle, who has been shunned by his own family, decides to bequeath the diamond to his niece Rachel Verinder on her eighteenth birthday. At her birthday party, Rachel wears the Moonstone for all to see, later that night the diamond goes missing from her room and quickly an investigation ensues to discover the identity of the thief and recover the jewel. Suspicion quickly falls upon three Indian jugglers at the party who are actually disguised Hindu priests who have dedicated their lives to recovering the diamond which has great religious significance. Despite the efforts of Sergeant Cuff, a renowned detective, the night ends with the mystery unsolved. Described by G. K. Chesterton as "probably the best detective tale in the world", "The Moonstone" is one of Wilkie Collins's most popular works which influenced the development an entirely new genre of fiction. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

La veine du bois dont il est constitué est à la fois robuste comme de l'iroko et tendre comme de fines lamelles de roseau. In the icy winter of 1786, in the final years before the French Revolution, hunger, cold, and seething frustration with the iron grip of France's absolute monarchy drive poor and rich alike to outright defiance. Slums, fashionable cafés, and even aristocratic mansions echo with discontent and the first warning signals of the approaching turmoil of 1789. Paris's cemeteries are foul and disease-ridden, but no one, including penniless writer Aristide Ravel, expects to find a man with his throat cut lying dead in a churchyard, surrounded by strange Masonic symbols. Already suspected of subversive activities, Ravel must now clear his name of murder. His search for answers amid the city's literary and intellectual demimonde-with the aid of friends who may not be all that they seem-leads him into a tangle of conspiracy, secret societies, royal scandal, and imminent revolution, which grows only more complex when the corpse disappears...
A high and narrow gate of carefully joined boards, standing ajar in a fence of the same construction! What is there in this to rouse a whole neighbourhood and collect before it a group of eager, anxious, hesitating people? I will tell you. This fence is no ordinary fence, and this gate no ordinary gate; nor is the fact of the latter standing a trifle open, one to be lightly regarded or taken an inconsiderate advantage of. For this is Judge Ostrander's place, and any one who knows Shelby or the gossip of its suburbs, knows that this house of his has not opened its doors to any outsider, man or woman, for over a dozen years; nor have his gates-in saying which, I include the great one in front-been seen in all that time to gape at any one's instance or to stand unclosed to public intrusion, no, not for a moment. The seclusion sought was absolute. The men and women who passed and repassed this corner many times a day were as ignorant as the townspeople in general of what lay behind the grey, monotonous exterior of the weather-beaten boards they so frequently brushed against. The house was there, of course, -they all knew the house, or did once-but there were rumours (no one ever knew how they originated) of another fence, a second barrier, standing a few feet inside the first and similar to it in all respects, even to the gates which corresponded exactly with these outer and visible ones and probably were just as fully provided with bolts and bars

But when three-time National Champion Dallas Conover is attacked and injured at the National Figure Skating pre-trials being held on Stuyvesant Pond and one of the mobile chefs is found shot to death, McAvoy must get to the bottom of things quickly before the food-fight turns even deadlier.

A story about foreign corruption infiltrating the city of Chicago and the efforts of a special unit formed to eradicate the alien force. This is the story of the men that formed the unit that fought to overcome its evil presence.
This is the story of what a Woman's patience can endure, and what a Man's resolution can achieve. If the machinery of the Law could be depended on to fathom every case of suspicion, and to conduct every process of inquiry, with moderate assistance only from the lubricating influences of oil of gold, the events which fill these pages might have claimed their share of the public attention in a Court of Justice. But the Law is still, in certain inevitable cases, the pre-engaged servant of the long purse; and the story is left to be told, for the first time, in this place. As the Judge might once have heard it, so the Reader shall hear it now. No circumstance of importance, from the beginning to the end of the disclosure, shall be related on hearsay evidence. When the writer of these introductory lines (Walter Hartright by name) happens to be more closely connected than others with the incidents to be recorded, he will describe them in his own person. When his experience fails, he will retire from the position of narrator; and his task will be continued, from the point at which he has left it off, by other persons who can speak to the circumstances under notice from their own knowledge, just as clearly and positively as he has spoken before them. Thus, the story here presented will be told by more than one pen, as the story of an offence against the laws is told in Court by more than one witness-with the same object, in both cases, to present the truth always in its most direct and most intelligible aspect; and to trace the course of one complete series of events, by making the persons who have been most closely connected with them, at each successive stage, relate their own experience, word for word. Let Walter Hartright, teacher of drawing, aged twenty-eight years, be heard first.
Dreams can inspire, crush-and even kill. For Karen Mehaffey, going for the stars-the sheriff's stars-wasn't turning out to be a dream come true. Flood waters are rising along with the thermometer, and the last thing she needs is a homicide. Detective Marek Okerlund, on the other hand, welcomes any distraction from the anniversary of his wife's death and from his mother-in-law's unannounced visit. When Karen calls back her old classmate Adam Van Eck to look after his ailing mother, he reluctantly returns from pounding the boards on Broadway-and is found days later, shotgun in hand, with his mother planted dead in her garden.Who other than Adam could possibly want the retired schoolteacher dead? The only link to her life outside her garden is the Dream Team, a group of high school students dreaming up ways to revitalize the dying county of Eda, South Dakota. With the detritus of dead dreams all around, Karen and Marek must flush out a killer. Before the levee breaks.Neither cozy nor hardboiled, DEAD DREAMS is a character-driven police procedural of a rural bent. Second in series. Word Count: 91,000. Occasional profanity. Minimal gore.
