Bag det hele ligger personernes kristne tro og deres kampe for at leve et kristent liv midt i en sekulariseret verden. Bogen skildrer levende hvordan Gud aldrig slipper sine, men møder dem, også i den dybeste nød, med sin betingelsesløse kærlighed der rækker ud efter mennesker selv når kirken svigter.
