"Close to the Light" is an expression of the life experiences with bi-polar disorder. The writings are a "dark" poetry that mirror the depressive and euphoric states of the disease. In doing so, it muses on the philosophy and meaning of life as the disease serves to intensify the host's inherent talents and internal reflections.
