Anonymously published in 1889 and later ascribed to intelligence officer and theological writer Robert Anderson, this book was an appeal to sceptics and free thinkers. Examining the arguments of religion and science with respect to existentialist questions, Anderson finds them both wanting, and urges belief in an unknown God.
