The present amusing series of tales were so highly esteemed on the Continent and were so frequently recommended to the attention of the publisher that he was induced to present them in English. They appear to have been brought forth by the extravagant and, as the author thought, undeserved praise which was showered upon Galland's "Arabian Nights."
