  • - Neoliberalism and New Technologies of Power
    af Byung-Chul Han
    143,95 kr.

Exploring how neoliberalism has discovered the productive force of the psycheByung-Chul Han, a star of German philosophy, continues his passionate critique of neoliberalism, trenchantly describing a regime of technological domination that, in contrast to Foucault's biopower, has discovered the productive force of the psyche. In the course of discussing all the facets of neoliberal psychopolitics fueling our contemporary crisis of freedom, Han elaborates an analytical framework that provides an original theory of Big Data and a lucid phenomenology of emotion. But this provocative essay proposes counter models too, presenting a wealth of ideas and surprising alternatives at every turn.

  • - Upheaval in the Lifeworld

  • - Society, Perception and Communication Today
    af Byung-Chul Han
    150,95 - 475,95 kr.

In this work, cultural theorist Byung-Chul Han looks at how we have exchanged variety with an age of sameness, not characterised by external repression but by depression through the self. Tracing this violence through phenomena such as terrorism, he argues that by acknowledging the Other again, we can overcome a crushing process of assimilation.

Every epoch has its emblematic illnesses, this book argues, and our society is undergoing a silent paradigm shift that has led to the pathological exhaustion commonly referred to as "burnout."

Beauty today is a paradox. The cult of beauty is ubiquitous but it has lost its transcendence and become little more than an aspect of consumerism, the aesthetic dimension of capitalism. The sublime and unsettling aspects of beauty have given way to corporeal pleasures and 'likes', resulting in a kind of 'pornography' of beauty.

  • - Neoliberalisme og de nye magtteknikker
    af Byung-Chul Han
    148,95 kr.

Således hører følgende advarsel til like-kapitalismen: Protect me from what I want.”

The polished, the smooth, the impeccable, are the hallmark of our time. They are what Jeff Koons sculptures, smartphones and waxing have in common. These qualities highlight the current "excess of positivity" that Han speaks of in other essays, but that he focuses on and develops here in the field of art and aesthetics. Why do you like "polished" so much today? Because it does not damage, it offers no resistance. The digital beauty constitutes the space of the same, which does not tolerate any strangeness, any otherness, any negativity. Beauty is not a momentary brilliance nor is it found in immediate contact; shines in silence, through detours; it happens as a reunion and recognition.

Narratives create bonds. From them is born what connects and links us. In this way, they found communities and save us from contingency. However, today, when everything has become arbitrary and random, storytelling has become a commercial weapon that transforms storytelling into another tool of capitalism, propagating amid the disorientation and lack of meaning characteristic of the information society. Storytelling and information are opposing forces. The spirit of the narration is lost among the information that turns individuals into consumers, lonely and isolated, dedicated to moments, with the aim of increasing their performance and productivity. Only the narration is the one that elevates us and unites us through a common history of communicable experiences that make the passage of time meaningful, contributing a transforming power to society; it is the only one that can gather us around the fire to give us meaning.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A POWERFUL CALL TO FORSAKE A HYPERACTIVE LIFE AND REGAIN OUR SENSES, OUR EQUILIBRIUM, AND OUR INNER WEALTH. We are losing our ability to do nothing. Our existence is completely consumed by activity, and therefore completely exploited. Since we only perceive life in terms of performance, we tend to understand inactivity as a deficit, denial, or the mere absence of activity, when it is quite the opposite: a very interesting, independent capacity. Byung-Chul Han explores the benefits, the splendor, and magic of idleness, and devises a new way of life, involving contemplative moments, with which to tackle the current crisis in our society and put a stop to our own exploitation and the destruction of nature.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION This new book by one of the most creative cultural theorists writing today will be of interest to a wide readership. We no longer inhabit earth and dwell under the sky: these are being replaced by Google Earth and the Cloud. The terrestrial order is giving way to a digital order, the world of things is being replaced by a world of non-things - a constantly expanding 'infosphere' of information and communication which displaces objects and obliterates any stillness and calmness in our lives. Byung-Chul Han's critique of the infosphere highlights the price we are paying for our growing preoccupation with information and communication. Today we search for more information without gaining any real knowledge. We communicate constantly without participating in a community. We save masses of data without keeping track of our memories. We accumulate friends and followers without encountering other people. This is how information develops a form of life that has no stability or duration. And as we become increasingly absorbed in the infosphere, we lose touch with the magic of things which provide a stable environment for dwelling and give continuity to human life. The infosphere may seem to grant us new freedoms but it creates new forms of control too, and it cuts us off from the kind of freedom that is tied to acting in the world.

Transparency is the order of the day. It is a term, a slogan, that dominates public discourse about corruption and freedom of information. Considered crucial to democracy, it touches our political and economic lives as well as our private lives. Anyone can obtain information about anything. Everything-and everyone-has become transparent: unveiled or exposed by the apparatuses that exert a kind of collective control over the post-capitalist world. Yet, transparency has a dark side that, ironically, has everything to do with a lack of mystery, shadow, and nuance. Behind the apparent accessibility of knowledge lies the disappearance of privacy, homogenization, and the collapse of trust. The anxiety to accumulate ever more information does not necessarily produce more knowledge or faith. Technology creates the illusion of total containment and the constant monitoring of information, but what we lack is adequate interpretation of the information. In this manifesto, Byung-Chul Han denounces transparency as a false ideal, the strongest and most pernicious of our contemporary mythologies.

  • - Tanker om det digitale
    af Byung-Chul Han
    159,95 - 208,95 kr.

I sværmen.
