Christian Wilster er i dag mest kendt for sine oversættelser af Iliaden pg Odysseen, men han var også selv en habil digter.Hans vers om bondeknøsen Hans, der havde været udenlands, var kendt af de fleste, ligesom hans vers om forholdene før Holberg:Hver Mand, som med Kløgt gik i Lærdom til Bund, Latin paa Papiret kun malte.
