Este libro es para aquellos que a veces, se sienten pequeños e insuficientes ante una vocación gigantesca. Es para quienes, como Moisés y como yo, sintieron que la misión que les toca en la vida, parece mucho más grande que su capacidad natural para realizarla. Lo que aprendí en la vida es que en realidad, a Dios le encanta hacer cosas extraordinarias con personas imperfectas como tú y yo, aun cuando no nos sintamos capaces de hacerlo. Aprendí que el cruzar puentes transculturales es el deseo de Dios para la integración humana y para que todos tengan acceso a la verdad. Al escribir, tengo en mente a quienes nos recuerdan que la misión transcultural no siempre se hizo bien. Estos nos estimulan a repensar tanto la validez de una misión transcultural como a elegir formas más auténticas, más dignas, más amorosas, más integrales y eficientes de encauzar la pasión de servir a los demás en una cultura diferente. Antes de ir a África, mi esposa, Hannelore, y yo éramos médicos y estábamos estudiando teología. Estábamos preparándonos con herramientas para cumplir nuestro sueño de servir a otros en una cultura diferente, en Mozambique. Un país que se estaba convirtiendo en el foco de nuestras investigaciones, un país por el que oramos y que estábamos comenzando a amar cada vez más. ¿Por qué África? Nos decían algunos cuando les contamos nuestro sueño. En Argentina hay muchos lugares donde podríamos servir a otros, donde hay necesidad de médicos y personas que enseñen la biblia. Servir de manera transcultural desconcierta a quienes solo piensan la vida en forma nacionalista o hacia adentro de su propia cultura. Pero, aunque entendíamos las buenas intenciones de nuestros amigos que querían frenarnos, nos parecía egoísta pensar solo en nuestro país y no en otros que también son parte de nuestra gran familia humana que también necesitan de tú solidaridad y la mía. Así que, seguimos adelante con nuestro sueño. La misión transcultural es una respuesta a esta hermandad global. A través de este libro quiero mostrarte que la misión transcultural tiene sentido. Aún si no eres una persona de fe, podrás ver los beneficios de la misión. La misión que tiene como modelo a Jesús eleva a las personas, las empodera, les devuelve la dignidad, la libertad y la alegría que los vicios y la superstición les quitan. La misión estimula al ser humano a buscar la salud y el crecimiento integral. Te invito a navegar por este libro con una mente abierta intentando ver a personas de otra cultura como integrantes de tu familia. Porque en realidad lo son. La familia humana. La misión transcultural es una expresión de amor entre hermanos. Esto lo inspira Jesús y lo podemos practicar todos.
