Jane Harper er en britisk-født australsk forfatter, som brød igennem med spændingsromanen "The Dry" (dansk: "Tørke" ) i 2016. Hun er uddannet journalist og arbejdede i mange år som senior nyhedsjournalist for the Hull Daily Mail. I 2014, indsendte Jane Harper en short story til the Big Issue's annual Fiction Edition, som blev en af de 12 udvalgte. Denne succesfulde oplevelse motiverede hende til at blive mere seriøs og dedikeret omkring hendes skrivning, så samme år søgte hun ind på et 12-ugers romanskrivningskursus. Faktisk kom hun ind med indsendelsen af den tekst, der senere skulle udvikle sig til romanen "Tørke".
