The Babies Hospital, now known as Morgan Stanley Children''s Hospital, was founded in 1887 by Drs. Sarah and Julia McNutt in a brownstone on Fifty-Fifth Street and Lexington Avenue. The hospital is the first freestanding children''s hospital in New York City and the fourth oldest in the United States. However, the hospital traces its roots to the establishment of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, then King''s College, more than 250 years ago. In 1929, the hospital relocated to a new 204-bed facility as part of the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. The New York Times referred to the new Babies Hospital as the last word in hospital design and equipment. Under the leadership of Rustin Mcintosh from 1931 to 1960, the hospital became a beacon for discovery and innovation, assembled a department of noted subspecialists, and was one of the first children''s hospitals to develop programs in neonatology, surgery, radiology, neurology, hematology-oncology, and psychiatry.

If, as a health care or social service provider, one was called upon to help someone who has experienced terror in the hands of a hostage taker, an irate and chronically abusive spouse or parent, or a has survived a motor vehicle accident, landslide, earthquake, hurricane or even a massive flood, what would be one's priority response? What would be considered as the most pressing need of the individual requiring care? Whatever the answer to each of these questions, people who have experienced terror, suffer considerable psychological injury. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in a Global Context offers some answers to meet the needs of health care and socials service providers in all settings, whether in a hospital emergency room, at the war front, or natural disaster site. The take home message is, after providing emergency care, there is always a pressing need to provide mental health care to all victims of traumatic stress.

The ultimate modern-day breastfeeding guide, with empowering, medically sound advice and solutions for the trickiest issues-from a pioneering ENT doctor and breastfeeding expert. In today's breastfeeding-friendly environment, the pressure to nurse is intense. We hear over and over that breastfeeding is natural, and every woman can do it. The truth is, the majority of moms need help breastfeeding, but they're forced to sift through varying viewpoints from a dizzying host of sources instead of being able to turn to a doctor for advice. And when breastfeeding doesn't work, they're the ones getting blamed for failure. In Better Breastfeeding, women will find information, not opinions: science-backed facts to help them make their own informed decisions, without feeling ashamed or bullied. Dr. Linda Dahl presents a new paradigm for breastfeeding based on diagnosing and treating mothers and babies using anatomy and physiology, offering a comprehensive overview of how breastfeeding works, why it fails, and what to do about it. Dr. Dahl takes you through the basics of breastfeeding in a week-by-week guide and explores solutions for little-understood difficulties like gape restriction and tongue tie, nipple and breast pain, issues with milk supply, or abnormal nursing behaviors. Better Breastfeeding is the no-holds-barred primer that every mom needs before and during her breastfeeding journey so she can advocate for herself and her baby.
