John Brown, the abolitionist, is a historical figure that some describe as a prophet and others call a domestic terrorist. His raid on the arsenal at Harpers Ferry and subsequent hanging in 1859 preceded the American Civil War by 16 months. This story looks at events largely from Brown's own perspective. The reader can decide whether he was a terrorist or prophet.

How could a loving parent imagine the death of their only child, let alone by their own hands? As a youth, the Old Testament story of Abraham and Isaac was a troubling one for the author of this modern day version. Why would God make such a strange and terrifying demand, unless he was trying to prepare his people for the coming of his own son? It wasn't until he was a renewed Christian at age 53 that the author was blessed to write this story, which may help explain how these Biblical events could have happened. Told through the eyes of Isaac and his young friends, it is a seldom seen glimpse into a Biblical world which eventually explains all the mysteries of life. More importantly, the author now knows that God sacrificed his one and only son so all of us could become his children. Thank you God for making the ultimate sacrifice for us.
During fi fty years of writing fiction. Favoring the decades as nesting dolls for her interplay of imagination with memory, she evokes the ever shifting spirit of the times through the lives of her characters, creatures of days swift flowing from time past through the evanescent present toward the some days of an ever-receding horizon. Shadows of a growing distance from youthful dreams of invincibility Borenstein's twelve stories in Evanescence: Stories: 1950s-2000 are literary timepieces she fashioned lengthen across "the American century" as it grows older. Her Afterword celebrates the short story as self-replenishing for readers journeying on from a once-upon-a-time moment in American history.
"Debut author Peña offers a middle-grade tale of middle-school high jinks." "Peña has a keen sense of drama, and the threat of Mildred's memory returning effectively hangs over the feel-good moments that make up much of the novel." "This is a puzzling narrative decision, as the book has no qualms about frankly moralizing on other subjects, such as infidelity and drug use." -Kirkus, 2018 When Amanda Muse started junior high in a new school far from home, she met Mildred Riley. Mildred was a known bully who targeted Amanda from day one. This is a story of how a freak accident made a bully and her victim become the best of friends.
Often Kasey C. Jones uses bold measures in his poems to create epic journeys, and at times, these so-called measures are extreme and strange possibly when taken literally. "Unconditional Flows" has evolved what you may have read by Kasey, and in this collection, he does not hesitate to showcase his shorter length poems.

Through it all Luisa, mother, sister, wife, grandmother observes changes in the church, in styles, and in the people she loves. The last half of the book consists of short stories, some humorous and some tragic, of the author's experiences including the many faces of marriage, uniquely Colombian witchcraft and apparitions. There is ultimately a picture of the violence that fi nally engulfed Colombia in kidnapping and death. The story travels from Medellín to Manizales, from the early 1900s to the late 1980s. Within Demystifying God Tony Saunders challenges the socio-political superstructures of modernity based on the interpretation that society has evolved into a new age: the age of iGod. Throughout Western history God has always been considered external and out in the great beyond, however, in the age of iGod people, and especially black people, are beginning to see God as internal and as self. Demystifying God is therefore an action plan written with the confident hope that once the black people of today know themselves and their potential they will be willing to put the work in to make their lives, and the lives of other black people, far more righteous as a result of their own divinity. There is no doubt that large sections of the black community are currently unrighteous, it is up to them now to lay hold of that righteousness.

The Devereuxs of Alexandria, Virginia were moderate people. The eldest son seemed the most moderate of all. Claude Devereux wanted no part of secession. None of his family wanted Virginia to leave the Union. This family of bankers owned no slaves and believed slavery to be an institution to be rid of. The Devereux wanted to be left alone in their private world. Nevertheless, they found Virginia's decision to secede compelling and the Lincoln Administration's decision to suppress rebellion in the South to be unacceptable. Family separation and exile from their home had been the inevitable result. Some family members sided with the Union, but the overwhelming majority went South into the 17th Virginia Infantry, the Alexandria Regiment. In the third year of the war, the crushing forces of greater manpower, the naval blockade and the world's largest industrial base were steadily driving the Confederacy to its knees. Desperate times demand desperate measures. In such times who could be better placed for action against disaster than a family of merchant bankers? In that year of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Vicksburg, something had to be done. Some gateway leading out of the maze had to be found.

Most of the people leading the United States of America graduated from the best colleges and universities, and you'd think they'd be willing and capable of making wise decisions. But most of our founding fathers didn't attend Harvard, Yale or any other institution of higher learning; they made decisions that created the greatest nation on earth using common sense, good judgment and perhaps a little help from God. Abraham Lincoln learned to read from the Bible. We need that kind of leadership today, but most politicians refuse to call on the wisdom of God when making their decisions, neither do they consult the people that elected them that they are supposed to represent. If we are going to get our country back on the right track we have to get more involved and start holding them accountable when they make bad decisions; and we have to evaluate our own decisions that affect the country, start making changes that will help bring our country back to what the founding fathers visualized.
A young concrete worker meets two men in a tavern who share his desire to find the Darlington River's rogue branch. It appears only once a year for a few weeks when the moon is right. He meets a young, rich widow who shares the same interest in the random phenomenon and outfits the largest boat for their journey. The rogue leads to a laboratory and hybrid nursery beyond the tangle of marsh grass and vines. They break through the wall of green and arrive on a silver lake that has a treacherous whirlpool. What they discover there, is spine-chilling.
This cookbook was assembled for my children. My old Davidis cookbook is printed in German Fraktur font, the pages have yellowed, and the terms are often hard to understand even in modern German. The recipes I selected were used in my home. Most of the instructions in this cookbook were listed for households that had several kitchen helpers, and they had to prepare the meals from butchering a rabbit, chicken, and deer. It contains social-etiquette suggestions in regard to entertaining tea parties, dances, and great dinners. It lists menus for every day of the year, a simple table, and a rich table. These instructions were for us children great reading and amusement. However, I can find our recipes easily by the smudged and dog-eared pages. My grandparents had no kitchen helpers. They were of the class of industrial workers. Everyone worked physically hard and needed good nourishment. Both families valued good-quality meals. To celebrate holidays, special dishes and cakes were a custom. And these are the traditional cakes that I introduced. The sauerbraten is the Christmas roast, the stollen is the Christmas bread, and best of all, goodies are the spiced cookies. In my household, I treasure the simple cooking utensils, dishes, and tablecloth handmade by my mother. Many items are still from the households of my grandmothers, therefore Rhenish pottery. I hope to give a sense of this tradition of a Rhenish household from the 1900s to our modern families.

"The BOOK"Even since the beginning of my Christian life, I have been drawn to the Book Of Revelation. It may be scary and shows God as a vengeful God, but surely He proved that in the old Testament. The problem exists the future is to be perused, believed, and acted upon by all who acknowledge a creation God and His Sacrificial Son Jesus Christ. I found that the plagues to gain God's will, will be used in the Tribulation and have been used before, in Egypt and to bring the wayward Israelites back to the fold. Please accept that you belong in a world where nothing is certain, life or death, so it is your choice to read and believe or suffer the plagues that have been PROMISED in REVELATION. And May God guides your decision. AMENMany say I found Christ, but sometimes Christ Finds You! He found me sitting in the gutter bemoaning a flat tire on the car. He sent a servant that I knew but was unaware he was a Christian. He invited me to go home shower, dress, and meet him for Church that evening. That was the start of my seventy, odd years in Christian Service. A word or two at the right time and in the right place can add years of service to the Lord Jesus Christ. What have those years enjoyed, preaching- three states, volunteer with faith organizations, founding health and pain organizations advisory to sporting and community groups, all stemming from one person's invitation. GO AND DO LIKEWISE!
With exquisite grace, dori jeanine somers (who has been heard to call herself an "internationally unknown poet) shares her thoughts, poetic and profound, on creating a full and rewarding life by the choices we make. While fire-eaters, both North & South, fanned controversial flames into open, armed hostilities, the political situation south of the 1860 US-Mexico border also quickly deteriorated. Prior to opening shots at Fort Sumter, Liberal Republican President Benito Juarez wrestled power away from the clerical Conservatives who had held the country in a oppressive grip since before Spain's embarrassing evacuation. Juarez's election, and subsequent persecutions, prompted affluent expatriate Conservatives to flee to Europe, where, as political refugees, they gained the sympathies of France's Napoleon III. Seeing the turmoil brewing in the US, Napoleon, backed by some of Europe's most influential bankers, gambled and embarked on a mission of regaining a foot-hold on the western continent that had been lost since the publication of the US's Monroe Doctrine. This Napoleon accomplished by convincing Austria's Archduke Maximilian in accepting the "Crown of Mexico," which would be propped-up by French expeditionary forces. However, when the devastating US turmoil concluded with the subjugation of the South, US Secretary of State, William Seward, issued a threatening ultimatum demanding Napoleon to withdraw French troops from Mexico, or face the consequences of war with the United States. With the final embarkation of the French Foreign Legion from the coastal port of Vera Cruz, it was only a matter of time before Maximilian realized his puppet-government could not survive without exterior military support. Convinced that forging peaceful, political alliances with the victorious North was his only formula for successful existence, Maximilian spurned the overtures of displaced, unrepentant southern generals offering their services. Seward, however, rejected Maximilian's proposals. With his stunningly beautiful bride having returned to Europe to seek the reestablishment of withdrawn monetary and military support from governments and the Vatican, Maximilian made his last stand against converging loyal Juaristas at an old Spanish town north of that republic's capital.

SEIZING THE ESSENCE is about the dynamics of Value that form man´s concept of reality. Human beings don't just passively experience the things and events that represent this journey through life; they construct them intellectually from the sense of value that is intrinsic to cognizant creatures. We don't simply enjoy the finer things in life, we aspire to them; and when awed by the experience of great beauty or magnificence, we want to identify with its source. As the created agents of Essence, we intellectualize its value by experiencing it as differentiated reality. Experiencing Value as representational objects in a relational world affirms the Absolute Value of our uncreated source. The tragedy of our materialistic age is that we have mistaken our differentiated, space/time existence for ultimate reality, with the result that we have lost much of our innate value-sensibility. The mindset of most people today has been shaped by objectivists who insist that man is totally a product of biological and cultural evolution. Fueled by Darwin's Origin of the Species, the objectivists have thrown the babe out with the bathwater. "Selfness" is today regarded as a myth of dubious origin, and material reality is believed to be primary to one's awareness of it. SEIZING THE ESSENCE makes the case that all knowledge is proprietary to the self, and that physical reality is an intellectual construct of Value which is the individual´s perspective of Essence. The author bases his cosmology on a principle first postulated by the 15th century logician Nicholas of Cusa which deals with a "not-other" that is the coincidence of all otherness. Cusa´s theory affords the philosopher a dialectic handle by which to relate finite experience to the Oneness of Essence. It leads logically to a cosmology in which physical existence is a virtual reality created largely by man, who is the cognizant agent of his estranged Essence. Essentialism is an original philosophy that embraces the spirituality of Judeo-Christianity and Eastern mysticism, yet is grounded in a metaphysical cosmology that is non-dogmatic, logically plausible, and far more vital to contemporary man. A central message of this book is that, although values drive mankind, it is man´s free choices that determine the course of history. In addition to chapters describing our "real world mentality" and man's historical search for the "stuff of reality", the author offers "A Modernist´s Guide to Values" complete with a strategy for achieving an "authentic society". Included is an extended glossary of names and special terms that are relevant to the Philosophy of Essence.
