Eventually, the family found refuge in Germany and, in 1949, arrived in the United States. In this land of freedom, Bochan had the opportunity to pursue an education. She received a B.A. in English from University of Minnesota and an MAT in teaching from Spalding University. She was fortunate to teach in a Mercy school for twenty-three years (Assumption High School, Louisville, KY). There, she absorbed values that have become her guidelines for life. In her retirement, she has returned to writing to capture her spiritual journey.

Juliette Caruso O'Dell has just completed her twentieth year teaching, seventeen of those teaching United States history. As a teacher, she struggled teaching the institution of slavery to her eighth graders. She turned to respected black authors and other resources to help instill in her students awareness of how a specific group of people were forcibly brought to the shores of the newly 'discovered' Americas. Juliette didn't want to just "tell" her students and stop there. She wanted to share with them how people can and did endure horrendously inhumane physical and mental cruelty and survive to tell their stories. Juliette then turned to Tom Feelings drawings in his book, The Middle Passage. She used them as a visual tool. As she lectured on the book, she noticed her students' uncomfortable faces, many of them drawing their own interpretations and feelings while seated at their desks. She knew this would be a way for them to express themselves with this outlet for both the ugliness and their understanding of what they were being taught. Throughout years of teaching, Juliette developed lesson plans for her classroom and bought many charcoal pencils. Her students were the motivating factor to continue using art, as Tom Feelings did, to educate about the Middle Passage. Also included in this book, is a 3 day - 50 minute lesson plan. Other demons look like rats, dragons, crocodiles/alligators, lizards, hyenas, devil dogs, giant mosquitoes, bat birds, crawling worm siblings, demons looking like the mother, sea demons, whale shark giant sea monster devils, bigfoot monkey-looking demons. The devil's fourteen demons, some of them come from under the ground, traveling at a high rate of speed for its attack; some fly like prehistoric birds, and some live in the sea and spreads their venom. All fourteen demons have lobster-like claws and a scorpion stinger tail, and all of them are different but attack the same way as their mother. None of the demons spray fire like the mother, but they are all killing machines; however, they were put down by military force! A substance called "the pink blob slime jelly orange sand" was the devil's powerful venom, and all the demons have it. Some of the fourteen demons have siblings. The venom turns colors, and it's electrified and glows in the dark, looking like a moving jellyfish and terrorizing the globe with fear of the second coming of the devil.
