Murano glass production at the prestigious Venetian event from the 1910s to the 1930s Devoted to the presence of Murano glass at the prestigious Venetian event, this new title in the "Le Stanze del Vetro" series examines the period from 1912 to 1930 (from the 10th to the 17th edition of the Biennale) through a carefully chosen selection of 135 works, many of which very rare, from prestigious museums and private collections. During this period, Murano glass gradually made its way into the Biennale spaces; first, through the artists choosing to use this extraordinary material for their works, then thanks to the opening of the Applied Arts event which was held in various rooms, together with the so-called Fine Arts, in the Palazzo dell'Esposizione until 1930. It was not until 1932, following the construction of a new pavilion, that glass and the applied arts had their own dedicated venue in the Giardini. In the 1910s, it was mostly glass designed by artists such as the Norwegian-born sculptor and ceramist Hans Stoltenberg Lerche, the Murano decorator Vittorio Toso Borella, the painters Vittorio Zecchin and Teodoro Wolf Ferrari and the wrought-iron artist Umberto Bellotto. After the interruption due to the war, since the 1920s, alongside some of these artists, glassworks began to appear at the Biennale that presented autonomously their best production or with the collaboration of external designers. Among them were the furnace of Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini, V.S.M. Cappellin Venini e C. and the Vetreria Artistica Barovier. Edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, the result of careful bibliographic research and an in-depth documentary investigation in the Biennale Historical Archive, the volume illustrates with period photographs, drawings and documentary material what was exhibited at the Biennale in a period that marked the entry of so-called minor art into the world of major arts, officially consecrating the artistic value of Murano's avant-garde production.

Fifty masterpieces trace the life and work of the two masters who contributed decisively to the birth of Impressionism and influenced future generations of artistsAuguste Renoir (1841-1919) and Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) assert themselves as two great masters of French painting during the last quarter of the 19th century and the very beginning of the 20th century. From the impressionist melting pot of their beginnings to the age of maturity, the two men have never ceased to trace a singular trajectory, expressing themselves in different styles, rigor and geometry for Cézanne and rounded harmony for Renoir, with nevertheless many crossing points between the two works. Jewellery and Islamic art, the interweaving of masterpieces The book explores the influence of Islamic art on the production of jewelry and precious objects by Cartier, from the early 20th century to the present day. Jewellery and objects from the Cartier collection, masterpieces of Islamic art, drawings, books, photographs and archival documents trace the diversity of sources that inspired the forms and motifs used in Cartier creations. Sometimes easily identifiable, at other times decomposed and recomposed to the point of rendering their source untraceable, motifs and forms from Islamic art and architecture have integrated the stylistic language of designers to the point of constituting part of Cartier's repertoire to this day, illustrated by contemporary jewelry pieces that complete this journey. A complete reference book on contemporary Italian fashion photography This project is born from the will to celebrate Italian fashion photography and begins the first phase in selecting and cataloging of professionals over a time period of two years. The intent of this work is to bring togeather the relevant professionals in the sector in a paper based archive which will become a consultation tool for agencies, creative studios and those passionate about the sector. From the point of view of selected photographers, the publication becomes an additional support for their promotion and visibility. ¿The photo archive¿ is the visual concept of this publication, which is notable from the typografic composition (simple and technical), the clean and serial layout (it gives relevance to the photographs) and from the alphabetic division (which reminds and recalls the abecedary and from where the title took inspiration).

Twelve fairy tales by Maria Gvardeitseva based on the real stories of her friends For centuries, the breakup has been the prerogative of men. Today, about half of all marriages in Europe end in divorce and, significantly, 75 percent of divorce applications are filed by women. Perhaps that last statistic explains why women suffer more emotional hurt and find it harder than their ex-partners to build a new lifestyle and relationships. The cruel logic would be that if the woman marries for love and then decides it was a bad idea, the fault must be hers. So she suffers psychological and social consequences ¿ self-blame, stigma, or both. The project 5-Minute Bedtime Stories resists this logic in a fabulous way. London-based artist Maria Gvardeitseva, divorced after 20 years of marriage, four children, numerous countries, and shared challenges, takes a pronounced political and feminist approach to the story of her separation, which transforms grief, sorrow, and hatred in order to let them go. She offers artistic tools celebrating ¿divorce art¿ that help women to look at the situation with self-love, rediscover the socio-political aspects of marriage, and cope with this life trauma and the challenges of patriarchy. She does this in a surprising way ¿ by reference to fairy tales.

A tribute to Yayoi Kusama, the world¿s most popular artist, according to The Art Newspaper and The Guardian. Yayoi Kusama is one of Japan¿s most important and famous artists, beloved across multiple generations and different audiences, capable of wonder and amazement. Infinito presente is a tribute to her original and unique art, focusing on Fireflies on the Water one of her most iconic Infinity Mirror Rooms from the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Fireflies on the Water is a room-sized installation where, as the title suggests, the lights seem almost natural, like fireflies on a quiet summer¿s night. The pool of water creates an incredible sense of stillness and the mirrors reflect never-ending images of themselves, creating a sidereal ambience. Space appears infinite, without top or bottom, beginning or end. As in Yayoi Kusamäs early installations, including her Infinity Mirror Room (1965), Fireflies on the Water embodies an almost hallucinatory approach to reality. Although linked to the artist¿s personal mythology and the process of therapeutic work, this work also references sources as diverse as the myth of Narcissus and Kusamäs native Japanese landscape.

The highly original and unique art of Escher, one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century Maurits Cornelis Escher was born in 1898 in the Netherlands and died there in 1972. In 1922 he first visited Italy (Tuscany, Umbria and Liguria) and in 1923 arrived in Rome, where he lived for twelve years, until 1935. The Roman period had a strong influence on all his later work, which saw him prolific in the production of lithographs and etchings especially of landscapes, views, architecture and views of that ancient and Baroque Rome that he loved to investigate in its most intimate dimension, that of the night, by the dim light of a lantern. Restless, reserved and undoubtedly brilliant, Escher in his famous engravings and lithographs created a unique, imaginative, impossible world where art, mathematics, science, physics and design converge. Published on the exhibition in Rome, the volume gathers over 300 works, including new acquisitions and many of his most notable pieces that have made him famous all over the world, documenting the story of the Dutch artist¿s genius with the most iconic works of his production such as Hand with Reflecting Sphere (1935), Bond of Union (1956), Metamorphosis II (1939), Day and Night (1938) and the Emblemata series, which belong to the common imagination referable to the great artist. The book also features the complete series of 12 Roman Nocturnes produced in 1934. An artist discovered relatively recently, Escher is loved by those who know art, but also by those who are passionate about mathematics, geometry, science, design, and graphics. A wide range of themes converge in his works, and for this reason in the panorama of art history he represents a uniqueness.

The works by one of the most important Chinese contemporary artists, considered one of the symbols of new China. Forty large-format black-and-white portraits of women tell, with a single protagonist, the kaleidoscopic female universe and its infinite facets Through Her Eyes is a journey through female eternity. The artist¿s attentive gaze spans centuries and traditions to offer us a multifaceted representation of women, relating constantly to their roles in society and their inner world. The muse and sole protagonist of this artistic research is the ethereal Ludmilla Voronkina Bozzetti. The artistic project Through Her Eyes ¿ Timeless Strength took shape in 2021, when Vadukul met Ludmilla during a shoot for Roberto Cavalli¿s Zero Collection and he was dazzled. Ludmilla, the subject of this fascinating narrative, is much more than a model. Her magnetic presence and strength make her the soul of this exhibition, perfectly complementing the extraordinary art of Max Vadukul. Taken at the timeless Villa Gattoni in Meleti, Lombardy, the photographs immortalise Ludmilläs evolution in an entrancing journey that forms the heart of Vadukul¿s narrative. In the photographer¿s eyes, Ludmilla is a multifaceted woman: daughter, wife, mother, seductress, worker. She is both absorbed and detached, sad and thoughtful, but also strong, self-assured and triumphant. Vadukul shows us that a woman is an endless kaleidoscope of different perspectives and worlds, an infinite feminine world that cannot be immortalised in a single shot. Every image awakens in the audience an awareness of the impossibility of labelling her: she is simultaneously everything, she holds life in her womb and the future in her hands. Max Vadukul¿s art becomes a tribute to the history of women, to their journey through the centuries. Ludmilläs feminine energy and strength, which span history and are manifested in the artist¿s photographs, evoke in the heart of the onlooker the eternal respect owed to women.

The importance of circularity in the shots of the renowned contemporary photographer The CIRCLE addresses some of the most pressing issues of our time, such as the circular economy and ecological transition, through compelling images by Locatelli, whose research is aimed at documenting solutions that will help the planet and humanity to survive. In recent years, his work has won international prizes, including the World Press Photo Award in the Environment category, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the World Photography Organisation Award. Between 2021 and 2023, under commission from Gallerie d¿Italia, Locatelli undertook a journey through Europe, on which he translated into extraordinary images some of its most successful circular economy projects. Their merit is to have pursued a sustainable economic model which, through technological support and innovation, manages to combine production activity with respect for the environment, natural resources and social progress, in a harmonious, balanced way. The artist conducted his research in places as far apart as Italy, Iceland, Norway, Romania, Germany, Switzerland and Galicia, where it encompassed the floating photovoltaics on Lac des Toules, textile recycling in Prato, and the coal mine in Saxony-Anhalt that has been transformed into a cultural centre. The result is a documentary photography project of international reach that this volume, which accompanies the Turin exhibition, documents hoping that Locatelli¿s work will trigger emotions and reflections that will help to effect the cultural transformation necessary for the birth of new and more sustainable development models.

An in-depth survey of the sculptural and performance-based installation by the internationally recognized artist This publication is an intimate exploration of Brendan Fernandes¿s installation and performance Inaction and the film Free Fall for Camera, which were co-presented by the Ezra and Cecile Zilkha Gallery at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, United States and the Richmond Art Gallery in British Columbia, Canada. It creates a richly illustrated archive of the project by bringing together photographic documentation, architectural drawings, an original dance score, essays, and a conversation between the artist, featured dancers and the exhibition curators. The choreographies in Inaction are based on children¿s games like hide-and-seek, follow-the-leader, and other forms of call-and-response. This publication will engage these concepts using the movement of the pages as an extension of its graphic design. More so, Inaction explores the political capacity of notions like movement and stillness, wherein dance is considered a tool for collective understanding. Brendan Fernandes (b. 1979, Nairobi, Kenya) is an internationally recognized Canadian artist working at the intersection of dance and visual arts. His projects have shown at the 2019 Whitney Biennial (New York); the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York); the Museum of Modern Art (New York); The Getty Museum (Los Angeles); the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa); MAC (Montreal); among a great many others. He is currently Assistant Professor at Northwestern University and represented by Monique Meloche Gallery in Chicago. Notable projects include performances and solo presentations at the Noguchi Museum, New York, NY; The Richmond Art Gallery, Richmond, BC; The National Gallery of Canada and recent commissions with The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia; The DR Vocal Ensemble, Copenhagen, Denmark and a new dance performance with Munch Museum, Oslo, Norway.

The extraordinary world of the artist Walasse Ting (1928-2010) Walasse Ting (b. 1929, Wuxi, China, d. 2010, New York) was one of the most radical and independent figures of his time. His work fused the traditions of Chinese art with the rebellious spirit of the French avant-garde, and combined the joy of the Northern European CoBrA movement with the kinesthetic power of Abstract Expressionism. His work has been considered the most extraordinary collective book of the 1960s. Walasse Ting: Parrot Jungle goes beyond 1¢ Life, reflecting on the greater narrative of Ting¿s abundant oeuvre. It also provides readers the opportunity to immerse themselves in Ting¿s world, in which female figures with rainbow-colored flesh are surrounded by flora, fauna and a wild menagerie of cats, parrots, grasshoppers, butterflies, flamingos, peacocks and horses. It also documents the story of Ting¿s diasporic life, the formation of his transnational identity and his defiantly independent spirit. Ting is an artist plagued with the gift of being born too soon. He was a global artist before universal cultural exchange defined modern life. His work eludes the restrictions used to form historical narratives, which rely on neatly placing artists and artworks in fixed national and stylistic groupings. Western art history¿s inability to situate Ting in a singular construct has lead him to be omitted from many of the cultural narratives in which he played a pivotal role.

Serving as the main residence of King Abdulaziz bin Saud and his son King Saud, the palace witnessed the rise of the Kingdom¿s diplomacy, as it used to receive foreign delegations, kings, heads of state, ministers, and ambassadors. It is in this emblematic palace, whose gates were represented on Saudi banknotes in the 1950s, that the Kingdom signed important agreements that would shape its future: it is here that the first oil concession deal between Saudi Arabia and Standard Oil of California was sealed in 1933, making Khuzam Palace a building block of the Kingdom¿s commercial and political relations. Turned into a museum in 1983, this iconic building has gradually been abandoned. Once vibrant with life, it is now still; yet Khuzam Palace continues to exist through its spirit and character which seem to transcend the materiality of its empty physical space. The Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia commissioned five artist photographers and five writers from Saudi Arabia, the Arab region, and Europe to capture the spirit and memory of Khuzam. This artistic book series exhibits the unique architectural style of Khuzam with its fortified gates, stunning mosaic-decorated windows, symmetrical staircases, large halls, and special mix of construction material ¿ stone bricks, reinforced concrete, iron and wood; it sheds light on the cultural influences that inspired the palace¿s construction, from 19th century architecture to art deco.

Richard Estes is internationally known as one of the founders of hyperrealism and one of the key figures of contemporary American painting. Born in Kewanee, Illinois, on May 4, 1932, he is a poet of the American metropolis, a subtle investigator into the evolution of the urban landscape--a narrative that can easily be followed in his work (included are his paintings of Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Cordova, and Hiroshima). He also explores landscapes where an uncontaminated nature seems to flex its muscles defiantly (the imposing Machu Picchu or the luminous vibrations of the sea seen from a ferry off the coast of Maine). One is to share the best international contemporary art with society at large and the other is to help turn the Valencian Autonomous Community into a top cultural and artistic destination. The Centre will show off the Hortensia Herrero Foundation¿s private collection, which includes works by artists such as Andreas Gursky, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Miquel Barceló, Alexander Calder, Tony Cragg and Anish Kapoor, as well as temporary exhibitions of other world-famed artists. The project also meets one of the Foundation¿s key aims, namely heritage conservation by restoring and repurposing an iconic Valencian palace, Palacio Valeriola (Valeriola Palace), an iconic 17th-century building in the Baroque Style, in Valenciäs Old Town. Furthermore, once the Valeriola Palace has been restored, the Hortensia Herrero Art Centre will also house the offices of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, sprang to life in 2012 with the mission of fostering interest, knowledge and awareness of art and culture. Hortensia Herrero is the President of the Foundation that bears her name. She is Vice-President and majority shareholder of Mercadona, Spain¿s biggest supermarket chain. Her philanthropic work stems from her wish to give back to the land where she was born and that has given her so much in life.
