Später kamen zahlreiche Erzählungen und Novellen sowie dramatische und lyrische Texte hinzu. Fussenegger war Katholikin, Historikerin, Philosophin. Ihre Handlungen liegen oft im Spannungsfeld ambivalenter Themen wie Religion, Schicksal, Schuld und Verantwortung. Fussenegger verstarb 2009 im Alter von 96 Jahren.

Eines seiner bekanntesten Werke ist "Tewje, der Milchmann", aus dem sich in den 1960er Jahren das weltweit bekannte Musical "Fiddler on the Roof" entwickelte.

Heute lebt er in der Pfalz.
