The American millionaire John Millinborn is taken suddenly ill in his English house, he asks his lawyer and friend one last favor: find and watch over his missing niece, Miss Oliva Cresswell, daughter of his deceased sister, who will inherit the immense fortune of his uncle. However, the millionaire is mysteriously murdered, stabbed to death in his sick bed. The mysteries multiply and deepen as the story progresses.
