WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T LOOK UP... Nathan Underhill is right out at the cutting edge of stem-cell research: attempting to recreate mythological creatures in order to cure medical conditions like Alzheimer's and MS. After five years of research, however, his latest experiment fails, and he loses his funding. But when his wife Grace loses an elderly patient in unusual circumstances, Nathan suspects that somebody has succeeded in breeding mythical hybrids...The couple discover that Doctor Zauber, owner of the local care home, has brought to life one of the most dangerous creatures of medieval times: the basilisk, which could reputedly kill any living thing with a single stare. After Grace narrowly escapes being killed and is put into a coma, Nathan is faced with an impossible dilemma: lose Grace for ever, or enter into an unholy alliance with Zauber to breed more mythological beasts, at the cost of many more human lives. Daniel and the demure, and slightly shy Gabby are due to go on holiday to Kefalonia. Gabby, having received a bonus from work, treats herself to some clothes. Realizing she hadn't bought much for Daniel, she sees an e-book in the window of a second-hand shop. With only one story loaded, she reads the synopsis and sees that it is a rom-com, knowing it's not Daniel's style but still buys it for him. When he reads the synopsis, he finds the story to be a violent action thriller. He decides to save the book until they are on holiday, and in the run-up, the weather in Britain turns unseasonably cold. As he starts to read the story, he discovers it is a spy thriller but begins to notice strange similarities between the characters in the story and their own experiences. The more he reads, the more uncomfortable he becomes. He speaks to Gabby about it, but she dismisses it as a coincidence. He notices words changing as he reads them, and the e-book seems to be communicating with him. Gradually, the story starts to predict their future, a future full of danger. He feels compelled to continue reading and ignores Gabby, driving her into the arms of another man to fulfil her desires that Daniel wasn't giving her. Too late, he finds out that he must never stop reading.

These nine stories tackle the unease of transformation, growth, and change in a world where the mundane is only a veneer hiding the darkness below. Childhood anxieties manifest as degraded doppelgangers; fungal blooms are harvested from the backs of dancers; and lycanthropes become the new social pariahs. In You Will Grow Into Them, the demons we carry inside us are very real indeed.

Small Florida coastal towns often find themselves scrambling for the tourism dollars that the Orlando theme parks leave behind. And within the town limits of Boneyard Key, the residents decided long ago to lean into its ghostliness. Nick Royer, owner of the Hallowed Grounds coffee shop, embraces the ghost tourism that keeps the local economy afloat, as well as his spectral roommate. At least he doesn't have to run air-conditioning. Cassie Rutherford possibly overreacted to all her friends getting married and having kids by leaving Orlando and buying a flipped historic cottage in Boneyard Key. Though there's something unusual with her new home (her laptop won't charge in any outlets, and the poetry magnets on her fridge definitely didn't read "WRONG" and "MY HOUSE" when she put them up), she's charmed by the colorful history surrounding her. And she's catching a certain vibe from the grumpy coffee shop owner whenever he slips her a free slice of banana bread along with her coffee order. As Nick takes her on a ghost tour, sharing town gossip that tourists don't get to hear, and they spend nights side-by-side looking into the former owners of her haunted cottage, their connection solidifies into something very real and enticing. But Cassie's worried she's in too deep with this whole (haunted) home ownership thing...and Nick's afraid to get too close in case Cassie gets scared away for good.
H. P. Lovecraft and his work have become something of a cult among students of fantasy horror fiction.
