This book gathers the contributions of the international conference "Optimization and Decision Science" (ODS2018), which was held at the Hotel Villa Diodoro, Taormina (Messina), Italy on September 10 to 13, 2018, and was organized by AIRO, the Italian Operations Research Society, in cooperation with the DMI (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) of the University of Catania (Italy). The book offers state-of-the-art content on optimization, decisions science and problem solving methods, as well as their application in industrial and territorial systems. It highlights a range of real-world problems that are both challenging and worthwhile, using models and methods based on continuous and discrete optimization, network optimization, simulation and system dynamics, heuristics, metaheuristics, artificial intelligence, analytics, and multiple-criteria decision making. Given its scope of coverage, it will benefit not only researchers and practitioners working in these areas, but also the operations research community as a whole.
This book presents expert descriptions of the successful application of operations research in both the private and the public sector, including in logistics, transportation, product design, production planning and scheduling, and areas of social interest.
The contributions included in the volume are drawn from presentations at ODS2019 - International Conference on Optimization and Decision Science, which was the 49th annual meeting of the Italian Operations Research Society (AIRO) held at Genoa, Italy, on 4-7 September 2019.
This book presents expert descriptions of the successful application of operations research in both the private and the public sector, including in logistics, transportation, product design, production planning and scheduling, and areas of social interest.
This book is addressed to researchers in operations research, data science and artificial intelligence. It collects selected contributions from the first hybrid "e;Optimization and Decision Science - ODS2021"e; international conference on the theme Optimization and Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences, which was held in Rome 14-17 September 2021 and organized by AIRO, the Italian Operations Research Society and the Department of Statistical Sciences of Sapienza University of Rome. The book offers new and original contributions on different methodological optimization topics, from Support Vector Machines to Game Theory Network Models, from Mathematical Programming to Heuristic Algorithms, and Optimization Methods for a number of emerging problems from Truck and Drone delivery to Risk Assessment, from Power Networks Design to Portfolio Optimization. The articles in the book can give a significant edge to the general themes of sustainability and pollution reduction, distributive logistics, healthcare management in pandemic scenarios and clinical trials, distributed computing, scheduling, and many others. For these reasons, the book is aimed not only at researchers in the Operations Research community but also for practitioners facing decision-making problems in these areas and to students and researchers from other disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Sciences, Finance, Mathematics, and Engineering.
This volume collects peer-reviewed short papers presented at the Optimization and Decision Science conference (ODS 2022) held in Florence (Italy) from August 30th to September 2nd, 2022, organized by the Global Optimization Laboratory within the University of Florence and AIRO (the Italian Association for Operations Research). The book includes contributions in the fields of operations research, optimization, problem solving, decision making and their applications in the most diverse domains. Moreover, a special focus is set on the challenging theme Operations Research: inclusion and equity. The work offers 30 contributions, covering a wide spectrum of methodologies and applications. Specifically, they feature the following topics: (i) Variational Inequalities, Equilibria and Games, (ii) Optimization and Machine Learning, (iii) Global Optimization, (iv) Optimization under Uncertainty, (v) Combinatorial Optimization, (vi) Transportationand Mobility, (vii) Health Care Management, and (viii) Applications. This book is primarily addressed to researchers and PhD students of the operations research community. However, due to its interdisciplinary content, it will be of high interest for other closely related research communities.
This book provides a collection of contributions by Ph.D. students and early researchers who attended the 6th AIROYoung Workshop, held in Rome (Italy) at Roma Tre University, from 23 February to 25 February 2022. The selected contributions represent state-of-the-art knowledge related to several areas of operations research, optimization, and data science. The target audience of this book is primarily composed of Ph.D. students and early or experienced researchers in optimization and operations research. However, due to its interdisciplinary content, it is of high interest to other closely related research communities. Moreover, since it contains several works involving the use of optimization and data science in real applications, it is of interest to practitioners facing complex decision-making problems in these areas.
