The rise of populism, cynicism, fanaticism and fundamentalism challenges us to reconsider the problem of ressentiment. Characterized by Nietzsche as the self-poisoning of the will through internalising trauma in the form of a postponed and imaginary revenge, the concept of ressentiment is making a comeback in politicaldiscourse.Unlike resentment, the feeling of injustice, ressentiment is an intrinsically polemical notion. It implies a political drama in which there is no inherent good sense in its application and no universal criterion. Drawing on psychoanalysis, political theory, media theory and philosophy, this book examines a wide variety of ideological contexts, offering an examination of the divergent senses in which the concept of ressentimentis used today.

In the second edition of Being (book I of the Science of Logic) Hegel makes extensive use of the term plastisch. Hegelian critics and commentators from Catherine Malabou to Pierre-Jean Labarriere read his use of this term as a wish to override the Logic''s pure forms and rigid conceptualizations of universality. Other readers of Hegel''s Logic, like Stanley Rosen, warned against this plastic model of ''universal effectuality'' and the scholarly danger of straying away from ''the idea of Hegel''s science of logic.'' Contemporary Hegelian studies have been marked by this double turn to the logical foundation and speculative core of Hegel''s system, that is, to his logic as ''science''. This is the first book to introduce Italian and subaltern interpretations of the Hegelian Wirklichkeit (often translated as actuality), and to examine its implications throughout Hegel''s thought, taking Hegel''s Science of Logic as the basis for his philosophy. The volume''s understanding of effectual reality situates itself in a Machiavellian-Gramscian genealogy of ideas, and with an emphasis on the practical element of Wirklichkeit, beyond plasticity and actuality, it systematically considers the applications of Hegel''s logic to his philosophy of nature and the human world. Analyzing the relation between the Logic and its realizations, this book shows the internal tension that inhabits Hegel''s philosophy at the intersection of logical (conceptual) speculation and concrete (interpretative) analysis.

The concept of resistance has always been central to the reception of Hegel''s philosophy. The prevalent image of Hegel''s system, which continues to influence the scholarship to this day, is that of an absolutist, monist metaphysics which overcomes all resistance, sublating or assimilating all differences into a single organic ''Whole''. For that reason, the reception of Hegel has always been marked by the question of how to resist Hegel: how to think that which remains outside of or other to the totalizing system of dialectics.In recent years the work of scholars such as Catherine Malabou, Slavoj ┼╜i┼╛ek, Rebecca Comay and Frank Ruda has brought considerable nuance to this debate. This volume presents the concepts of schizoanalysis and ecosophy as Felix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze understood them, in interviews and analyses by their contemporaries and followers. This accessible yet authoritative introduction is written by distinguished specialists, combining testimonies from some of Guattari''s colleagues at the La Borde psychiatric clinic where he practiced, with expository essays on his main ideas, schizoanalysis and ecosophy, as well as his relations with Lacan. This collection both reflects and contributes to the recent surge of philosophical interest in The Antichrist and represents a major contribution to Nietzsche studies.Nietzsche regarded The Antichrist, along with Zarathustra, as his most important work. In it he outlined many epoch-defining ideas, including his dawning realisation of the ''death of God'' and the inception of a new, post-moral epoch in Western history. He called the work ''a crisis without equal on earth, the most profound collision of conscience, a decision that was conjured up against everything that had been believed, demanded, hallowed''. One certainly need not share Nietzsche''s estimation of his achievement in The Antichrist to conclude that there is something significant going on in this work. Indeed, even if Nietzsche overestimated its transformative power, it would be valuable nonetheless to have a clearer sense of why he thought so highly of this particular book, which is something of an outlier in his oeuvre. Until now, there has been no book that attempts to account with philosophical precision for the multiple themes addressed in this difficult and complex work.
