Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium held in Bochum, Germany, June 28-30, 1995
This book covers some of the fundamental topics in fluid power technology, presenting detailed derivations of formulas that form the basis of the theory. It shows the reader how to properly (i) design basic fluid power systems, (ii) construct lumped parameter models of simple fluid power systems, (iii) perform frequency analysis of fluid power components and systems, and (iv) develop controllers for fluid power systems. The book mainly focusses on mathematical modelling and analysis of fluid power components and systems i.e. practical issues such as working principles and construction of components are not covered in depth. The text is organized in four main parts: I Physics of Fluid, II Fluid Power Components, III Fluid Power Systems and IV Learning by Doing.
After investigations in laboratory scale wind tunnels, a joint initiative on PIV research, by the European Aerospace Research Establishments, within GARTEUR have enabled a wide breakthrough of this new technology in Europe.
Proceedings of the 4th European Drag Reduction Meeting
In the last 25 years, one of the most striking advances in Fluid Mecha nics was certainly the discovery of coherent structures in turbulence: lab oratory experiments and numerical simulations have shown that most turbulent flows exhibit both spatially-organized large-scale structures and disorganized motions, generally at smaller scales.
HYDRODYNAMIC PROPULSION AND ITS OPTIMIZATION ANALYTIC THEORY Hydrodynamic propulsion has been of major interest ever since craft took to the water.
This book presents the foundations of fluid mechanics and transport phenomena in a concise way. It is suitable as an introduction to the subject as it contains many examples, proposed problems and a chapter for self-evaluation.
With the advent of new recording and image analysis techniques new and promising experimental methods in fluid flows have presented themselves which are rather newly developed techniques such as particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), particle image velocimetry (PIV) and laser fluorescene (LIF).
The modeling of reactive flows has progressed mainly with advances in aerospace, which gave birth to a new science called aerothermochemistry, as well as through developments in chemical and process engineering.

The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics
Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium held in Kyoto, Japan, 9--13 May 1994
The active field of multi-phase flow has undergone fundamental changes in the last decade. Topics covered include solitary wave dynamics on viscous film flows, sheet formation and drop entrainment in stratified flow, wetting and dewetting dynamics, self-similar drop formation dynamics, waves in bubbly and suspension flow, and bubble dynamics.
TUrbulence modeling encounters mixed evaluation concerning its impor tance. The estrangement between the physics community and the turbulence modeling is further enhanced by the fact that the latter is founded on a weak theoretical basis, compared with the study of small-scale turbulence.
HYDRODYNAMIC PROPULSION AND ITS OPTIMIZATION ANALYTIC THEORY Hydrodynamic propulsion has been of major interest ever since craft took to the water.
This book contains chapters written by some eminent scientists and researchers on Computational Methods in Hypersonic Aerodynamics and forms a natural sequel to the earlier publications on Computational Methods in Potential Flow (1986) and Computational Methods in Viscous Aerodynamics (1990).
Modern experiments and numerical simulations show that the long-known coherent structures in turbulence take the form of elongated vortex tubes and vortex sheets.
Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium held in Goettingen, Germany, 2-6 September 2002
The overall theme of the conference is the optimisation of pipeline systems, through design analysis, component specification, operational strategies and performance evaluation, in order to minimise both risk and the lifetime cost of ownership.
, the fundamentals of and basic applications in fluid mechanics and convection heat transfer with brief excursions into fluid-particle dynamics and solid mechanics. Such as target group of students would have had prerequisites in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and solid mechanics, where Part A would be a welcomed refresher.
Critical regimes of two-phase flows with a polydisperse solid phase form the basis of such widespread industrial processes as separation of various powdery materials and minerals dressing.
Elementary vortices - those tubular swirling vortical structures with concentrated vorticity commonly observed in various kinds of turbulent flows - play key roles in turbulence dynamics (e.g.
This book revises the evolution of ideas in various branches of magnetohydrodynamics (astrophysics, earth and solar dynamos, pinch, MHD turbulence and liquid metals) and reviews current trends and challenges.
The structure and the contents of the present book have some com mon features with the monograph mentioned above, although there are new issues concerning the mathematical apparatus developed so that the Boltzmann equation can be applied for new physical problems.
