One of the world's few poisonous lizards, the Gila monster is named for Arizona's Gila River. Once the lizard's venom has dripped from its grooved teeth into prey, death is imminent. Also known as the giant green iguana, this lizard starts out small but can grow to be more than 6 feet long! It also has between 80 and 120 teeth at a time, and grows a new tooth every time an old one wears out. Despite their size and sharp teeth, green iguanas would rather run away than get into a fight.
