Der theoretische Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf der Episode als der kleinsten geschlossenen Einheit erzahlter Handlung. Die Episode wird definiert als ein Interpretationskonstrukt des Lesers, der eine Reihe distinkter Sachverhalte in der fiktionalen Welt als eine transformationelle Serie aus genau zwei Ereignissen konstruiert. Dieser Vorgang hat den konkreten Text zur Basis; er bezieht jedoch daruber hinaus sowohl das Weltwissen des Lesers ein und verlauft in Abhangigkeit von bestimmten logischen und semiotischen Regeln, die den Status von De-facto-Universalien des Lesens von Handlung besitzen. Neben der Formulierung neuer Definitionen fur die Kernbegriffe Ereignis, Episode und Handlung stellt die Arbeit in einem computerphilologischen Teil eine neu entwickelte Softwareanwendung vor, die als Werkzeug zur Identifizierung, Auszeichnung und Analyse von Ereignissen im narrativen Text dienen kann.

The Narratologiaseries publishes state-of-the-art monographs and collective volumes devoted to modern narrative theory and its historical reconstruction in all the philological disciplines. It is the first narratological forum of its kind in Germany. In addition to literary texts, the series focuses on narration in everyday contexts, in pictorial media, in film and in the new media as well as on narration in historiography, ethnology, medicine, and the law. The series publishes in German and English. All volumes are peer reviewed by two anonymous assessors.

Die ReiheNarratologia publiziert innovative Monographien und Sammelbande zur modernen Erzahltheorie und zu ihrer fachgeschichtlichen Rekonstruktion aus allen philologischen Disziplinen. Sie stellt das erste narratologische Forum dieser Art in Deutschland dar. Neben literarischen Texten stehen u. a. auch das Alltagserzahlen, Wort-Bild-Texte, Erzahlen im Film und in den neuen Medien sowie das Erzahlen in Historiographie, Ethnologie, Medizin und Rechtswissenschaft im Fokus der Reihe. Die Publikationssprachen der Reihe sind Deutsch und Englisch. Alle Bande werden zweifach begutachtet.

Filmische Strukturen in der Literatur sind bislang primar aus intermedialitatstheoretischer Sicht untersucht worden, ohne dabei allerdings die Spezifik des Erzahlens hinreichend zu berucksichtigen. Vernachlassigt worden sind weiterhin Entwicklungen im deutschsprachigen Bereich. Die vorliegende Studie stellt ein narratologisch fundiertes, kontextsensitives Modell vor (kontextuale Narratologie) und vermittelt Einsichten in das typologische Spektrum filmischen Erzahlens als Form literarischen Erzahlens wie auch in dessen Geschichte vom 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. Dabei stehen die Relation von Erzahlen und Wahrnehmungsgeschichte, die historisch variable Funktionalisierung, vor allem aber der Formenreichtum filmischen Erzahlens im Fokus der Auseinandersetzungen. Bisherige Forschungsansatze werden kritisch ausgewertet, systematische und historische Zugange zum Phanomen methodisch konsequent gebundelt. Der Gegenstandsbereich erstreckt sich uber die deutschsprachige Erzahlliteratur hinaus ebenfalls auf franzosische, englische und US-amerikanische Texte. Illustriert wird der Nutzen des vorgestellten Analysemodells anhand separater Fallstudien (Friedo Lampe, Wolfgang Koeppen, Peter Weiss und Alexander Kluge).

Wahrend die Literaturwissenschaft auf eine mittlerweile vier Jahrzehnte andauernde intensive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Phanomen und Begriff des Phantastischen zuruckblicken kann, hat die Filmwissenschaft bislang keine vergleichbaren Ansatze einer Engfassung und Theoretisierung des phantastischen Films entwickelt. Die Arbeit unternimmt einen ersten Schritt dazu, das von der strukturalistischen Literaturwissenschaft entwickelte, narratologische Modell des Phantastischen systematisch fur den fiktionalen Spielfilm zu adaptieren, wobei dieses Modell jedoch dahingehend zu erweitern und zu modifizieren ist, dass es den speziellen Bedingungen des filmischen Erzahlens gerecht wird. Ein Schlusselbegriff ist dabei der der Instabilitat, die sich sowohl auf die narrative Vermittlung des Dargestellten als auch auf die erzahlte Welt erstreckt. Phantastisches Erzahlen ist, wie die Arbeit zeigt, stets ein mehrdeutiges, destabilisierendes Erzahlen, das aus der Spannung zwischen der Evokation einer ins Wanken geratenen, mittels des rationalen Verstandes nicht mehr entzifferbaren erzahlten Welt und spezifischen Verfahren der narrativen Prasentation der Ereignisse entsteht.Im Einzelnen untersucht werden instabile und mehrdeutige Wahrnehmungsperspektiven (Fokalisierungen), Durchbrechungen und Auflosungen der raumzeitlichen Kontinuitat, destabilisierte Erzahlerinstanzen, Verschachtelungen der Erzahlebenen sowie die Kategorien der Figur, des Raums und das grenzuberschreitende Ereignis der Inszenierung virtueller Medienrealitaten im phantastischen Film. Die Arbeit greift dabei auf Beispiele von der Fruhzeit des fiktionalen Films bis zur Gegenwart zuruck und bezieht verschiedene nationale Kinematographien ein.

This volume combines narratological analyses with an investigation of the ideological ramifications of the use of narrative strategies. The collected essays do not posit any intrinsic or stable connection between narrative techniques and world views. Rather, they demonstrate that world views are inevitably expressed through highly specific formal strategies. Der Sammelband enthält kommentierte und annotierte deutsche Übersetzungen von 12 theoretischen Texten aus der russischen Vorgeschichte der Narratologie. Die Texte, durchweg präformalistischer, formalistischer, formalismusnaher oder strukturalistischer Provenienz, sind zwei kardinalen Themen der russischen Proto-Narratologie gewidmet, dem "Sujet" und dem werkimmanenten abstrakten Autor. Zum ersten Problemkreis sind Texte von Aleksandr Veselovskij, Viktor sklovskij, Nikolaj Aseev, Michail Petrovskij, Aleksandr Skaftymov, Vladimir Propp, Aleksandr Nikiforov und Jurij Lotman aufgenommen. Das Problem des werkimmanenten Autors wird in Texten von Il'ja Gruzdev, Viktor Vinogradov und Boris Korman exponiert. Auswahl, Übersetzung, Kommentar und Annotation stammen in der Regel von Mitarbeitern eines Teilprojekts der von der DFG geförderten Hamburger Forschergruppe Narratologie. In zwei Fällen wurde auf bereits publizierte Übersetzungen zurückgegriffen. Der Band enthält eine Gesamtbibliographie zu den Texten.
