This book offers an understanding of the role of international law in the practice of post-conflict reconstruction. It identifies and explores how international legal issues that arise in the post-conflict period relate to a number of strands of the policy debate, including government creation, constitution-making, gender policy, provision of security, justice for past atrocities, rule of law development, economic recovery, returning displaced persons, and responsibilities of international actors. Each chapter not only locates relevant international legal doctrine in the policy debate, but also considers how this law has operated in practice.
Based on author's thesis (doctoral - University College London, 2016) issued under title: Self-determination and state-building in international law: a right in abeyance.
