In diesem Werk wird das Grundmodell der Real-Business-Cycle-Theorie einer ausführlichen empirischen Evaluation mit westdeutschen Daten der Jahre 1975-1994 unterzogen. Die Evaluation erfolgt anhand einer umfassenden Analyse der Zeitbereichimplikationen eines geeigneten kalibrierten Modells, nach spektralanalytischen Kriterien und mit dem methodischen Instrumentarium des NBER (Burns-Mitchell-Methodologie). Ferner werden Ansätze zur Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzung des Modells entwickelt, in Simulationsstudien validiert und schließlich zur Schätzung der tiefen Modellparameter eingesetzt. Es wird eine nicht-walrasianische Modifikation des theoretischen Grundmodells vorgeschlagen, die die Kointegrationseigenschaften deutscher Makrodaten sehr viel erfolgreicher abbildet als das Standardmodell und gleichzeitig bessere Ergebnisse in den entwickelten Evaluationsverfahren erzielt.

The book contains empirical analyses linking demographic variables to voter turnout and party choice using cross-section data for the Netherlands. Empirical applications of the party choice model allow for an estimation of relative preferences for public goods, using the revealed preference mechanism provided by voting (intention).

Angesichts deren extremer Prämissen hat sich, ausgehend von biologischen Ansätzen zur Entwicklung der Arten, eine alternative Theorie zur Erklärung individuellen Verhaltens entwickelt. Die Evolutionäre Spieltheorie verzichtet auf die, empirisch fragwürdigen, Prämissen vollkommener Rationalität, vollkommener Information und perfekter Verhaltenskoordinierung. Diese werden durch die Annahme von Anpassungsprozessen, die der biologischen Evolution nachempfunden sind, ersetzt. Das Buch dokumentiert die Entstehung dieser Richtung und zeigt dem Leser die Möglichkeiten auf, die diese Theorie eröffnet.Das Werk zeichnet sich durch seine gute Verständlichkeit aus und eignet sich unter anderem dadurch für den Einsatz als studienbegleitendes Lehrbuch.
