One of the most enduring mysteries of all time is what happened on Oak Island in Nova Scotia? Was there treasure buried there and is it still there? One of the most popular cable television shows ever, The Curse of Oak Island on History Channel, investigated the mystery spending millions of dollars over ten seasons and could not find the treasure. Both Don Ruh and Scott Wolter have had firsthand involvement with the island and its mysteries over the years, Don sharing two maps with Rick and Marty Lagina via his friend and co-researcher Zena Halpern, and Scott with his multiple visits to the island. However, they had little interest in the mystery until early in 2023 when a trove of encrypted documents came to Don as part of their research of the Knights' Templar Cremona Document materials. Once decoded, the five messages and three sketches and one new map of the island revealed shockingly detailed information about who constructed, " The Underground Project," put treasure there and what happened to it. Finally, the over six-centuries-long mystery has been solved. Incredibly, the documents also provide new insight into the fabled Holy Grail.

  • af James Rowinski

On November 11, 1923, the fifth anniversary of the Armistice, the memorial for the Fredericton war dead was unveiled. Popular perception is that the process was a simple one: a list of all of those who died in the Great War was compiled and inscribed on the monument. In reality, the truth is much more complex. In Perpetuity brings together the biographies of 110 soldiers from the Fredericton area who died from service during the First World War. The product of an inquiry-based learning project led by social studies teacher James Rowinski, the biographies shed light on the lives of the soldiers, the conditions they experienced during their service, and the process of commemoration following the war. The book includes the biographies of four soldiers that students argue should have been included on the official memorial, including Lieutenant Charles Blair who died by suicide in 1920 and would now likely be recognised as suffering from PTSD. A correction and supplement to official memory, In Perpetuity preserves the memory of Fredericton's war dead -- those who both were included and excluded from the official record. In Perpetuity is volume 30 of the New Brunswick Military Heritage Series.

  • af Darren Calabrese

"Following an accident resulting in the tragic loss of his mother on their family property in Douglas Harbour, New Brunswick, photojournalist Darren Calabrese--a new father himself--knew it was time to move back to Atlantic Canada, the place both he and his wife called home. Living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, his tremendous sense of loss led him to reflect on the meaning of home and his appreciation for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador: their geographies, histories, and traditions, turning his lens to explore the tension between the perseverance of tradition and the inevitability of change. Darren's photography led him from province to province, into cities, towns, homes, and Indigenous communities, who welcomed him to document the inextricable relationship between people, their stories, and the landscapes--equally beautiful and harsh--where they live and work. Personal essays on loss, family, and coming home, as well as Darren's experiences traveling to the regions he photographs, are woven throughout this evocative collection of carefully curated photographs and narrative captions, accompanied by archival photographs from Darren's deep family history. Elegant, spare, and revelatory at every turn, Leaving Good Things Behind: Photographs of Atlantic Canada brings to light both the challenges and joys of the places we live."--
