The Union Lost the Civil War a Long Time Ago! The Union ambassador is missing. More than a hundred years after the McClellan-Davis Accords ended the Civil War, tensions are still high between the Union and the Confederacy. But recent trade agreements and personnel exchanges have made both sides hope that good relations can be restored. That is, until the Union ambassador vanishes one night from the embassy in Perdition. Two agents are sent to investigate his disappearance. Delilah Thorn, a video surveillance analyst with zero field experience, has no idea why she's been sent on this operation, but her unshakeable faith in the Union convinces her that she must somehow have the right skills for the job. Her new partner, Dane Rook, is a seasoned veteran with a mysterious background-and a whole lot of skepticism about what their assignment entails. They've barely crossed into the Confederacy when the whole mission goes to hell. Separated, trapped in a hostile nation with no weapons or supplies, they slowly learn a terrible secret about the government just across their own border. Their lives depend on separating friend from foe and discovering the limits of their own endurance. Can they figure out not only how to survive, but also how to become agents of change in a brutal society that the world has left behind?

Kentucky, 1850. Jarrett, an enslaved groom, and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. As the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name painting the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack. New York City, 1954. Martha Jackson, a gallery owner celebrated for taking risks on edgy contemporary painters, becomes obsessed with a 19th century equestrian oil painting of mysterious provenance. Washington, DC, 2019. Jess, a Smithsonian scientist from Australia, and Theo, a Nigerian-American art historian, find themselves unexpectedly drawn to one another through their shared interest in the horse--one studying the stallion's bones for clues to his power and endurance, the other uncovering the lost history of the unsung Black horsemen who were critical to his racing success. Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred, Lexington, who became America's greatest stud sire, Horse is a gripping, multi-layered reckoning with the legacy of enslavement and racism in America"--
A thrilling, cinematic saga of a Southern belle whose espionage for Abraham Lincoln and the Union helped win the Civil War. Wealthy Southern belle Elizabeth Van Lew had it all. Money, charm, wit--the biggest mansion in Richmond. So why risk everything to become the Civil War's most productive Union spy?The answer was simple: freedom. In this gripping history of a secret espionage genius, Gerri Willis reveals how Elizabeth built a flourishing spy network in the heart of the Confederate Capitol. Flouting society's expectations for women, Elizabeth infiltrated prisons, defied public opinion, and recruited an underground movement of freed slaves, secret Unionists, and brave captives.Putting her straitlaced Victorian past behind her, Elizabeth encountered vivid characters--assassins, socialites, escape artists, and cross-dressing spies. From grave robbery to a bold voyage across enemy lines, her escapades grew more and more daring. It paid off. Her agents were so well-placed that she had spies gathering information in both the Confederate War Department and the Richmond White House, and couriers providing General Ulysses S. Grant with crucial, daily intelligence for the war's final assault.Deeply researched and rich with detail, Lincoln's Lady Spymaster is a remarkable true story of courage, ingenuity, and resistance. Gerri Willis pulls back the curtain on one of the most fearless heroes of the Civil War, restoring her to her rightful place as an American icon.

I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself and how I acquired these letters. My name is Steve Lawler and I am an avid history buff, antique picker and have been researching Civil War for 30 years. Myself and Neal (Mac) McBrayer were doing maintenance on our 12 lb Napoleon Cannon at Kelly Ranch near Alpine, AL. some 5 or 6 years ago. There was this trailer there and of course it caught my eye. I looked inside and it was full of boxes and books. I got to looking through the boxes and I found items from as far back as WW1. To make a long story short I was able to purchase the contents from Charles Kelly. As myself and Mac were going through the boxes and trunks, I came across these letters. I couldn't put them down. They were from Captain Kelly to his wife Amie. Nearly all the letters started with My Dear Amie hence the title of the letters. I couldn't bring myself to keep the letters. I gave them back to Charles and asked if I could take them with me and transcribe them. He agreed and a year and a half later I finally got done transcribing them. They are full of tragedies of war, humorous accounts and what Amie needed to do in keeping the farm up and running. If you are history buffs or needing to read the true account of the Civil War you will hear it from someone who lived through it day by day.
