Mä¿dir T¿r¿kh al-¿om¿l wa Mar¿ji¿ahu. ¿Arä wa Naqad: This book tackles the most important issues faced by researchers of Somali history, which is the difficulty of knowing the sources and references of Somali history due to the scattering of those sources and references and the lack of a guide or helper to point to them. Hence, the book sheds light on this area and provides researchers with a great service that fills this gap in a country that has completely collapsed and in which all the fundamentals and foundations of research have been lost, hoping it would be a guide for researchers of the history of the Horn of Africa region in its different eras, especially since it is considered the first book in Arabic - at least - to have this title and see the light.¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿. ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ - ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿ - ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿.¿¿About Mäallin:Dr Mohamed Hussein Müallin Ali was born in Mogadishu in 1964 where his primary and secondary education took place. »¿¿¿ bauhaus« (selam bauhaus) means »hello bauhaus« in Amharic, one of the most important languages in Ethiopia. Visually, one could also interpret the Amharic letters as "Why Bauhaus" to question the overuse of this label during the Bauhaus Centennial in 2019. So, why Bauhaus?100 years ago, the teaching of architecture and urban design at the Bauhaus responded to rapid changes in society and their impact on the built environment. The ambitions and methods of the historical Bauhaus can still inspire us in the present day: Today, facing global climate change and human migration, these themes are more pressing than ever. Through the Emerging City Lab Addis Ababa (ECL-AA), the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC) at Addis Ababa University established a joint lab. Combining innovation and social responsibility through experiments with building materials, practices and planning technologies beyond cultural, social, and disciplinary boundaries, this publication shows educational and research projects that emerged from the collaboration. In 2019 they were presented in the exhibition »¿¿¿ bauhaus (selam bauhaus) - hello bauhaus« on the occasion of the centenary of the Bauhaus and the 65th anniversary of the EiABC.

"A sweeping account of how the sea routes of Asia have transformed a vast expanse of the globe over the past five hundred years, powerfully shaping the modern world in the centuries leading up to our own, the volume of traffic across Asian sea routes-an area stretching from East Africa and the Middle East to Japan-exploded, eventually making them the busiest in the world. The result was a massive circulation of people, commodities, religion, culture, technology, and ideas. In this book, Eric Tagliacozzo chronicles how the seas and oceans of Asia have shaped the history of the largest continent for the past half millennium, leaving an indelible mark on the modern world in the process.Paying special attention to migration, trade, the environment, and cities, In Asian Waters examines the long history of contact between China and East Africa; the spread of Hinduism and Buddhism across the Bay of Bengal; and the intertwined histories of Islam and Christianity in the Philippines. The book illustrates how India became central to the spice trade; how the Indian Ocean became a 'British lake' between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries; and how lighthouses and sea mapping played important roles in imperialism. The volume ends by asking what may happen if China comes to rule the waves of Asia, as Britain once did. A novel account showing how Asian history can be seen as a whole when seen from the water, In Asian Waters presents a voyage into a past that is still alive in the present"--

The pastoral Somali people, with their rich heritage and unique way of life, offer a window into a world where the rhythms of nature and the bonds of community shape every aspect of life. From the birth of a child to the passage into adulthood, from marriage to the wisdom of old age, every stage of life is marked by deep-rooted traditions and practices. This book delves into these life-cycle events, uncovering the meanings, rituals, and customs that define the Somali pastoral experience.Beyond individual milestones, the household stands as the central unit of Somali pastoral society. It is within the walls of their homes that traditions are passed down, decisions are made, and the future of the community is shaped. This book explores the dynamics of these households, shedding light on the roles and relationships that bind them together.Throughout this exploration, we have been guided by a profound respect for the knowledge and insights of the Somali people themselves. Their stories, perspectives, and reflections are the heartbeat of this work, offering an authentic and nuanced understanding of a way of life that has endured through the ages.

Uganda is probably the best country to visit for access to African butterflies, with a wide range of habitats and a very pleasant climate all year round. The road network is good, providing access to accommodation that is clean, with good food and a warm welcome. This second edition has 70 colour plates, 14 more than the first edition, with 96 more photographs, covering 33 more species. All photographs were taken during five visits to Uganda, between 2016 and 2020, mostly, but not exclusively, in places that visitors will go to see other animals, such as birds, chimpanzees or gorillas. The major habitats can be roughly equally divided between savannah and forest, both of which are comfortable to walk in and offer a rich selection of butterflies, with about 1270 species on the list, about double what South Africa has to offer. We have provided a brief description of the places we would recommend but you will find butterflies everywhere in Uganda.

This unique title reveals the roots of Arab culture, literature, and Islamic history in the Somali peninsula and the extent to which the people of Somalia were affected by this connection. During the appearance of the Prophet Muhammad-Blessings and peace be upon him- in the Arabian Peninsula, and the subsequent migrations, starting with the refugee's among the companions of the Prophet-Blessings and peace be upon him- to the Horn of Africa followed by centuries long of interractions lef a permanent mark on the cultures and civilisations of Northeast Africa. “A candid, inspiring memoir of cultural and historical importance” from an Eritrean-Ethiopian War refugee (Michael Bloomberg).Dawit Gebremichael Habte fled his homeland of Eritrea as a teenager. In the midst of the ongoing Eritrean-Ethiopian war, Dawit and his sisters crossed illegally into Kenya. Without their parents or documents to help their passage, they experienced the abuse and neglect known by so many refugees around the world. But Dawit refused to give up. He stayed resilient and positive. Journeying to the United States under asylum—and still a boy—Dawit found a new purpose in an unfamiliar land. Against impossible odds, he studied hard and was accepted to Johns Hopkins University, eventually landing a job as a software engineer at Bloomberg. After a few years, with the support of Michael Bloomberg himself, Dawit returned to his homeland to offer business opportunities for other Eritreans. Dawit found a way to help his ancestral land emerge from thirty years of debilitating war.Gratitude in Low Voices is about how one man was marginalized, but how compassion and love never abandoned him. It’s about learning how to care for family, and how to honor those who help the helpless. This account reminds us that hope is not lost. “An inspiring memoir by Dawit Gebremichael Habte, who poignantly portrays his childhood in Africa and his struggles as a refugee to the United States . . . This book is a reaffirmation of the good that people can do and how one young man succeeded despite the odds against him.”—Foreword Reviews

The energy transition is associated with different topics in the Global North and South. While countries of the Global North have to reduce their per capita energy consumption and at the same time to switch from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy, countries of the Global South are challenged by providing access to clean and modern energy to their population. These processes take place at different levels and in different sectors. The study about the household energy transition in Mumias brings together global discourses aboutbasic energy needs and energy statistics with an ethnographic view on domestic energy consumption in a rural town in Western Kenya. The ethnography reveals the diversity in household settings and challenges simple models of the 'household' or the 'family', which are also inherent in the dominant approaches explaining the household energy transition: the energy ladder and fuel stacking model.Switching the perspective to the individual and his life course, hence adding a biographical and temporal dimension, contributes to be able to explain when and how a choice for a certain source of energy is made.Awareness of people's real life situations and challenges behind a simple statistical view is a keyfactor in order to develop adequate support programmes in the household energy sector in anycountry.
