Huang Pin-hung (1865-1955) occupies a very special position in the history of modern Chinese art. The art of Huang Pin-hung demonstrates the persistence of tradition and the limits of continuities as well as changes in modern Chinese culture. The period during which he lived and worked was marked by turbulent changes in China's cultural and political landscape. Like many intellectuals of his generation, he was deeply concerned with the question of "old" versus "new," and his voluminous writings on art frequently discuss the relationship between tradition and innovation. This concern is reflected throughout his long career as an artist, as he constantly sought to break new ground and to explore new creative territory within the parameters of the Chinese ink-painting language. One of the most outstanding aspects of Huang's career is his late maturity as an artist. While he began his training at an early age, his immense talent only came to full bloom during the last fifteen years of his life. Yet, because of this late maturing, his late paintings are imbued with the concentrated power of a lifetime of artistic creation, and possess an internal richness and complexity that is truly inimitable. Through a discussion of his transformation of tradition, in particular his late work, this book hopes to suggest how his late work embodies the vitality and potentiality for renewal of the Chinese cultural tradition. This is a revised and updated version of the first edition (April 2004), which includes research based on essential new materials: the proceedings of an international conference on Huang Pin-hung organized by the China Academy of Art Research in Beijing, the correspondence between Huang Pin-hung and his contemporaries (publisged in 2005), and the catalog of the major exhibition of Huang Pin-hung's works at the Che-chiang Museum in July of 2004.
This book explores multiple fields and disciplines around the theme of South Koreäs engagement and exchanges with global society focusing on development cooperation, migration and the media.
If the mind is total silence, it is muffled, if the mind is muffled the ego is absent, if the ego is absent there is unity with what one is, if there is unity with what one is, there is deep experience with what is real and essential. To meditate deeply is to continually practice the vow of abstention from evil and union with good; it is a constant process because evil or mental illusion reproduces itself, simultaneously both internally and externally. Evil is the mental self subjected to the triple illusion of hatred, selfishness and falsehood, associated with the ego's insatiable desire for power, money and sex. When this desire is cut off, the ego dissolves and does not interfere with the nature of the soul, thus free from the false self. The inattention of the mental self is taken advantage of by the reproduction of evil to enter internally and force its permanence. If you meditate for light, you make a double effort, on the one hand you turn off all light in your inner room, on the other hand you call upon a stranger to give you a light which is not your own or to enter your personal room to turn on for you the very light which you have previously decided to turn off.
North Korea launches a hypersonic ICBM that barely misses Los Angeles. U.S. President Sarah Jacobsen recruits Ric O'Malley, a leading physicist and Medal of Honor recipient, to quickly complete a quantum computer (QC) project already under development. Running 150 million times faster than any existing computer, this QC can bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) to a level that can not only destroy but can take over any ICBM in the world. Ric races to East Asia to obtain breakthrough research data from South Korean and Japanese allies. Before Ric can give the president a weaponized QC, she orders retaliation against North Korea which destroys the missile base that launched the attack on Los Angeles. Ultra-Marxists in China join with North Korea and strike the USS Ford aircraft carrier. Although damaged, the Ford is able to strike back at the Chinese mainland. The vortex of war in East Asia threatens to spiral into a full-fledged World War III.Meanwhile, Ric is almost killed in separate attacks in South Korea and Japan. He races back to his lab in New Mexico only to have his wife Marie attacked by a shooter at her high school. Dark players pose threats both at home and abroad. But even in this maelstrom of violence a plan for peace is taking place - an undersea "Peace Tunnel" between Japan and South Korea is almost completed. Visionary leaders are advocating that this tunnel be extended from Seoul to Pyongyang. This "Peace Road" might bring about reunification of the Korean Peninsula, bringing a permanent end to the nuclear threat from North Korea. Can Ric surmount everything working against him and complete the QC in time to stop a nuclear war? And is a "Peace Road" even a viable option for permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula?
Shows how Britain's trans-imperial engagements in the long nineteenth century have come to shape global cultural commodity flows today.
Examines questions of cosmos, society, and self through the metaphors and language of ancient Chinese texts and artifacts.

Yogi Mettàtron adds another 4 Noble Truths, thus totaling 8 Noble Truths on the Path. These allow the interaction of the inner force of the Self with the outer nature, including all other beings, perfecting the art of compassion. By the 5th Noble Truth it states that according to the place and time that each human consciousness occupies upon the world, it is its responsibility and power, to prevent the greatest evil from becoming present upon the planet or to allow the greatest good to become present. It defines that every bullet that is fired and kills is possible, because we all souls on the world unconsciously accept it at the same time. A single soul, totally united with God and with perfect love for all, through faith and sincere prayer, can divert and avert a natural catastrophe and even a war. By the 6th Noble Truth it indicates that when there is balance within, opposites rest. This means that when there is perfect equilibrium within, outwardly there is no contradiction or tension between the opposites, harmony dominates over all nature. Duality is subdued. Peace and goodness abound.
Deploying a spatial approach towards children¿s everyday life in interwar Hong Kong, this book considers the context-specific development of five transnational movements: the garden city movement; imperial hygiene movement; nationalist sentiments; the Young Women's Christian Association; and the Girl Guide. Locating these transnational cultural movements in four layers of context, from the most immediate to the most global, including the context of Hong Kong, Republican China, the British empire, and global influences, this book shows Hong Kong as a distinctive colonial domain where the imperatives around race, gender and class produced new products of empire where the child, the garden, the school and sport turned out to be the main dynamics in play in the interwar period.
This series of selected scores are from our beloved classical concert program «Singing Strings» YANG Jing Music for Pipa with String Quartet. Stringed instruments form the backbone of the western classical symphony orchestra. The Eastern string instrument Pipa has developed into a leading solo instrument as early as the Tang dynasty (618 - 709) in the East. In this set of classical concert programs, all pieces maintain the original and natural acoustic sound source of unplugged string instruments. It enables the encounter of different acoustic properties, different expressions of sound and sound aesthetics that have developed over time in different regions. This Program let old & new string instruments offer us an unforgettable musical experience _ from the fresh energy of the morning to the poetry of the sunset - from a silk bamboo tea house to a passionate dance in the desert of the wild west - from the search for one's own identity to the singing of swinging hearts - from pearls falling on to a jade plate to the gallop of black horses... Each piece opens up a new perspective!
The Order that exists in the Totality of relative existence is recreated from instant to instant by a frothy form of Cosmic Unified Consciousness through a constant flow of quantum information. It is what allows atomic sub-particles to flicker through quantum tunnelling, creating uncertainty while maintaining universal coherence. This scale of consciousness has existed since the origin of the cosmos and is the closest thing to our preconception of God. Everything is information and energy, it is what separates us from chaos. It is the software of Creation, a Fifth Force that makes the other four possible: gravity, electromagnetism, electroweak force and electro-strong force. So God, in this physical aspect, or this Quantum Unified Field Consciousness, is an essence of physical and not immaterial existence. So it is always possible to make intelligent contact with it. The very life known on Earth developed its potential consciousness from this form of Cosmic Proto-Mind. The human brain possesses the capacity to communicate, interact and expand on the scale of this universal consciousness.
If we increase the charge of our inner prana, our meditations will be much more intense, and it will be easier for us to enter into the state of emptiness and silence of mind, where it is possible to attract God's blessing and dialogue with Him. Our prayers will contain the same thoughts and words, but they will be recharged with energy and will penetrate space and time and obtain the desired response. Our bodies are nourished by food, water, air and the sun, but it is through the medulla oblongata or "mouth of God" that it receives directly the cosmic energy which is distributed through the subtle channels or nadis throughout the body. Through concentration, breathing, willpower, tension and relaxation it is possible to conduct the prana to the various parts of the body and learn to accumulate it there to recharge those cells.
Does physical education as a social motor purpose correspond to what we understand today as leisure and free time? Over time, educational, industrial and hospital establishments, among other sectors, both public and private, have given Physical Education the meaning of leisure and free time. They have given Physical Education an important place in society, so that nowadays the subject that some years ago was the "filler" in the educational classrooms nowadays brings with it a culture that is lived, sweated and felt as fitness. For this reason, it is now evident in different spaces that the subject in sports clothes is teaching and making known the importance of physical activity in our social body. Now, understanding physical education as a concept of training, discipline and performance is what occupies us and leads us to write these lines.
In August 1964 Australia deployed six Caribou aircraft and 76 personnel to Vung Tau, South Vietnam, as the new unit, RAAF Transport Flight Vietnam (RTFV). In mid-1966 the unit was renamed No. 35 Squadron and remained in South Vietnam until February 1972. This small team of aircraft and support personnel marked the first deployment of an RAAF unit on operations since the Korean War and the first war in which Australians did not fight alongside British. With only six aircraft, Wallaby Airlines, as the unit's operation became known, notched up impressive statistics over its eight years of existence - 80,000 sorties flying 47,000 hours and carrying over 40 million kilograms of cargo. RTFV was led for the first nine months by Squadron Leader Chris Sugden, DFC and Bar, a veteran of both the Second World War and the Korean War. Suggy was a generation older than most of the members of his unit and so became a defacto father figure to most of them. There is also no doubt he was looked up to by all and that he enjoyed the highest respect of every member of his unit, aircrew ground crew and support personnel, as well as the many United States and South Vietnamese personnel who came into contact with him. This is the story, untold to date, of these first 76 members of RTFV, of Suggy and his men, how the unit came into being, and of the first nine months of its existence - a period of operations which in some ways was quite different to those of the remaining seven years the unit was deployed in South Vietnam.
