"The Expansion of Europe: The Culmination of Modern History" by Ramsay Muir is a comprehensive examination of the historical expansion of Europe and the global impact of this expansion. The book traces the origins of European expansion, beginning with the voyages of exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries, and explores the economic, political, and social factors that drove European expansion. Muir argues that European expansion was the culmination of a long period of development that began with the Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution. He discusses the impact of European expansion on non-European societies, including the Americas, Africa, and Asia, and examines the legacy of European imperialism in the modern world. The book also examines the rise of nationalism and the development of European power politics in the 19th and early 20th centuries, culminating in the two World Wars. Muir concludes with a discussion of the challenges facing Europe in the aftermath of World War II, including the rise of the United States as a superpower and the decline of European colonialism. Overall, "The Expansion of Europe" provides a detailed analysis of the complex historical forces that shaped the modern world, and continues to be a valuable resource for scholars and students of history.

"Dinosaurs for Kids starts with an introduction to fossils and an explanation of what makes an animal a "dinosaur." Then it guides readers through the history of plant- and animal-life in the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. The book further discusses types of dinosaurs and how they lived. In the field-guide section, 150 species are organized by type. James's incredibly lifelike paleoart (digital reconstructions of extinct animals) portrays the dinosaurs as they may have appeared, and his text offers glimpses into their amazing lives, based on the latest information in dinosaur science"--

Circular enclosures [Kreisgrabenanlagen] or rondels have raised the interest of archeologists for more than a century. During the past two decades they received intensified attention in the media and wider public as "solar observatories" or "calendrical monuments". After conferences at Goseck [2004] and Heldenberg [2005], the time was ripe for another workshop combining recent research with fresh ideas. This took place online in 2022 as part of the research project Constructed Knowledge of Free University Berlin. The present volume contains 21 out of 30 papers presented there. Topics include new hypotheses and research on rondels in general, an overview of the FUB research project, site studies based on excavation, survey, in situ pXRF, experimental reconstruction, and Bayesian modelling at places such as Velm, Hornsburg I, Eggendorf am Walde, Niederleis, Rechnitz, Schletz, Heldenberg [A], Hradec Králové [CZ], Goseck, Kyhna, Quedlinburg I, Ippesheim, Hopferstadt, and in North Rhine-Westphalia [D]. Additionally, there are studies on visual characteristics and orientation patterns of rondels, their aptitude as venues of processions, and on burial customs of the Western Lengyel Culture.

Since ancient times, we, humans, have shared information. We have oral traditions and written books, stories and beautiful theories of origins. Yet, we lack consensus about where we are from. Storytelling takes us back in time. Evolution is in our back bone. Many speak about revelations. When are we going to win?Chronicles of the Good Family is a series looking into how we can become good, learn to understand our planet, and the universe that surrounds it.Far north, the Northern star, North Pole, North wind, Earth's axis - where does the known world end?In the Saga of the Ring, also known as the Bock Saga, it is told, that in ancient times people used to gather at a Rasti, a crossing point, to receive information. These teachings were presented by acting characters, and told through rhymes. Some of the rhymes have survived time, and are collected in manuscripts like Kalevala. Tolkien received inspiration from them, while creating The Lord of the Rings. And so the ring circles the ring. That which is precious, can sometimes seem to be out of reach. Through understanding, we can learn, and see, what there is to know. Eventually, we become good and give peace, and so we reach far. Everything that is hidden will be revealed.

This work presents an introduction to the study of pre-colonial funerary practices within the scope of archaeological research. Aimed at students and society in general, the book aims to make public how mortuary practices can be approached with a view to reconstructing the ways of life of the groups that occupied the national territory in prehistoric times. In clear and accessible language, the book provides a brief history on the study of pre-colonial mortuary rituals and practices, highlighting some theoretical considerations and proposing a methodological model for analysis. Considering that the large number of cemetery sites recorded in Brazil contrasts with the lack of archaeological research on this theme, this book also aims to encourage future studies on this vast and rich field of investigation, still very little explored in Brazilian archaeology.

Age of Wolf and Wind provides a new introduction to the Viking Age that capitalizes on recent archaeological discoveries and breakthroughs in the application of analytical techniques from the natural sciences. Author Davide Zori, an interdisciplinary archaeologist with fieldwork experience across the Viking world, delves into key questions of the Viking Age, such as the motivations of Scandinavians to board open wooden ships to raid England and cross the North Atlantic in search of new worlds beyond Europe. Each chapter offers new conclusions about the Vikings--their views on death, their raiding tactics, their laving feasts, their forging of powerful medieval states--by juxtaposing evidence from written texts, archaeology, and new scientific analyses.

The Bronze Age in Scandinavia is a period of significant societal changes where religious cult activity thrived. The rock carvings scattered throughout the landscape hold incredible cultural value and perhaps the key to unlocking the mystery of the religion of the time. However, the absence of written sources and the complexities of interpretation have left much of the meaning shrouded in enigma. The author, inspired by the local rock carvings in Askim and around western Sweden, aims to unravel their secrets, particularly their religious significance to the Bronze Age peoples. Although the interpretations of rock carvings vary, the author aims to identify religious elements and provide a complementary picture of their connections and parallels to later religious practices. The book explores the development of worldview from the Bronze Age to the Viking Age mythology and examines whether there are traces of cultural and religious exchanges with other parts of the world. By comparing the petroglyphs with symbolism worldwide, the author shows the intimate relationship between spirituality, religion, society, and humans. The book serves as a testament to the afterworld, attempting to shed light on the enigmatic Scandinavian petroglyphs and archaeologists' interpretations of them. Despite extensive studies of the petroglyphs, the mysterious and arcane nature of these ancient carvings often leaves more questions than answers.
