This comprehensive and richly detailed study by renowned scholar Willem Floor is the culmination of what is known about domestic glass and ceramic production-location, quality, craftsmen-in Iran from 1500 until the end of the Qajar period in 1925. Because of increasing imports, the Qajar government tried to improve domestic glass and ceramic techniques through transfer of technology, (once through direct foreign investment). The reasons for these failed attempts are discussed as well as the development of the import of glass and ceramic products. Over time, there was not only a change in the places of origin of glass and ceramic imports, but also in their volume and composition, which, during the Qajar period, included a large variety of cheap articles for mass consumption. There is an appendix for each chapter giving a market assessment for glass and ceramic production in Iran, written in French by Belgian consultants in 1891. The Belgian assessments offer a detailed chemical analysis of glass and ceramics made in Iran, as well as an inventory of the types of glassware and ceramics made by domestic craftsmen. It concludes with proposals for the establishment of a modern glass and ceramic factory in Iran.This superb body of research will not only be of great interest to Iranian scholars inside and outside the country, but also to everyone interested in the story of glass and ceramics throughout the world.

Farīd ad-Dīn-e ʿAṭṭār's Persian folk tale The Conference of the Birds relates the quest by thousands of pilgrim birds for an ideal king, the mythical bird called Sīmorgh. Established 31 years ago by means of a fleet of Soviet-made Tupolev Tu-154 passenger aircraft, Mahan Air soon turned into the largest airline of Iran. Despite being highly sanctioned by the US government and many other EU countries, Mahan Air has managed to take the place of Iran Air, Iran's flag carrier, in many of the domestic and international routes to Iran in recent years. Under control of retired Generals of Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Corps (IRGC), the airline plays an important role in transportation of personnel and troops of the Quds Force (IRGCQF) branch of the force from Iran to Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. Within the past eleven years, thousands of IRGCQF members were deployed to Syria using passenger aircraft, such as the large fleet of Airbus A310s of the airline. Mahan Air also serves political interests of the Iranian government in the Middle East and Latin America. The airline has had two of its A340-303s, two Airbus A340-642s and one of its Boeing 747-3B3Ms leased to flag carriers of Syria and Venezuela. Despite being heavily sanctioned , Mahan Air has not only managed to maintain its fleet of Avro Jet RJ70/85/100s, Airbus A310s, A300s, A340s and Boeing 747s but also managed to increase their numbers to a level to become the largest airline of the country, connecting it to East and Southeast Asia by means of its large fleet of long-haul and wide-body passenger aircraft.

The New Wave Cinema in Iran is a historical and analytical study of the Iranian New Wave Cinema (Mowj-e No) as an artistic and intellectual movement that came to its best early productions between 1958 and 1978. As the movement has a long history, Parviz Jahed focuses on the development and the early progression of the movement in the 1960s and explores its emergence and development in the context of the cultural and social conditions of Iran during this period.Jahed first defines the term 'New Wave' in Iran's film culture, in order to identify the root elements that gave traction to this movement. He analyses the degree to which different elements and factors have contributed to the formation of this cinema, accounting for the different approaches of Iranian intellectual filmmakers towards modernity and a modern form of cinema in Iran. The book finishes by studying the works of three intellectual figures and influential filmmakers of the 1960s, Ebrahim Golestan, Farrokh Ghaffari, and Feraydoon Rahnama, who are arguably considered the forerunners of the New Wave Cinema in Iran.

This book examines the dynamics of Iranian political refugees settling in and migrating through Turkey after the 1980 coup and how they were able to influence its asylum policies. By analysing the relationship between three main actors in Turkey after the coup in 1980 - the refugees, the UNHCR, and the Turkish state - Maral Jefroudi presents a comprehensive picture of one of the biggest migration waves in contemporary history. Taking an intersectional approach from the angle of precarity, narratives of refugees are presented in their own words as we understand their gender, class and political affiliations within Turkish socio-political context.Bringing together interviews with refugees from the period, analysing the cultural products by and on them, and tracing their footsteps in newspapers, archives, and scholarly literature, this book presents a thorough ethnography of Iranians in transit in Turkey after the 1979 Revolution. Their story provides an example to how laws are made and challenged by the very people they are made to regulate. With the formation of the EU and its border regime Frontex, Turkey has solidified its role both as a border guard and a transit country. This book provides an introduction to understanding the dynamics of this current "refugee crisis."

Indriya sthana is one of the eight sections of Charaka samhita. It contains twelve adhyaya. In the section of Indriya sthana various arishta lakshana (fatal signs or end stage signs or symptoms) are described which leads to imminent death. It describes the prognostication of life expectancy (aayu maana) in the aatura who are in end stage of life. 'Indriya sthana' describes about 'arishta lakshana'. 'Arishtalakshana' are also known as signs of end stage of life, which are also sign of imminent death. Aatura who are suffering with arishta lakshana are not treatable. Most of time, their vyadhi are progressive, and resistive to chikitsa, so Vaidya should avoid to give chikitsa to such aatura who are with arishta lakshana. Vaidya should be able to recognize such aatura who are with arishta lakshana. They should avoid treating such aatura. With the help of concept of Indriya sthana, they can understand or recognize such aatura (patient) who is with arisha lakshana, and continuously leading to death.

Es wird gezeigt, dass es von großer Bedeutung ist, sich mit der Gesundheit, Krankheit und Behandlung der Seele zu befassen, um die Herausbildung von Tugenden und Lastern zu verstehen. In diesen Zusammenhang ist es unablässig, die Frage zu stellen, in welchen Maß und auf welche Weise die Anpassung der Behandlung auf ein Individuum stattfindet, da von der Antwort auf diese Frage der Erfolg der Behandlung abhängt. Anschließend wird die Gesundheit, Krankheit und Behandlung der Seele im allgemeinen und auf partikularer Ebene dargelegt. Zum Schluss findet eine Einordnung in die arabische Tradition statt.
