Contains three of Chesterton's most influential works. In Heretics, Chesterton sets forth one of the most telling critiques of contemporary religious notions ever. The Blatchford Controversies are the spirited public debate which led to the writing of Heretics. Then in Orthodoxy, Chesterton accepts the challenge of his opponents and sets forth his own reasons for accepting the Christian Faith.
The Islamic occupation of the Algarve during the Middle Ages left a strong legacy in many areas of Portuguese culture. We call this territorial domain Gharb al-Andalus. In addition to the intangible legacy, the material remains discovered throughout the region attest to the long permanence of Islamic occupation. Within these parameters, a large number of Islamic buildings have been classified as National Monuments and Buildings of Public Interest. However, many of these structures leave us in doubt as to the state of preservation and dissemination of the heritage to local communities. This book addresses this shortcoming in an informative way, with fact sheets on Islamic heritage in the Algarve. Safeguarding the built cultural heritage is a patent that should not be ignored and, hopefully, new initiatives to protect the legacy of our history and culture will be realised.
Six years on from a failed marriage and with her son Ben now enjoying University life, Cassie finds herself at an inevitable crossroads and struggling to work out what her purpose is. Counting Ben as her only successful achievement in her life so far doesn't give her a great track record; but it also means she has nothing to lose by putting everything into a move to Brighton. Actively encouraged by Ben and her closest friend Lucy she goes looking for answers. 'Sanctuary' (oh the irony!) is a beautiful seafront building where she finds her new home. The house feels special but it is the occupants of the flats within who will change her life.Mel and Martha, Ray and Andy, Tom and Picasso the cat, all have their stories to tell. It is from them that Cassie will learn to let go of the past, believe in her self, trust in others and re-discover love in all its different forms. It's never too late for new beginnings.
This collection of poems was written by Susan Sansby during 2022 inspired by her recent move to Ely.She was born in the Fens but moved to London when she was sixteen returning to live in the Fens in her seventies. The poems are descriptions of places visited, feeling aroused by her surroundings and reflections on past and present events. The themes that run through the poems are our relationship with nature and history and the importance of preserving what we have on this planet. The destruction of our natural world in the name of progress, and the importance of working together in harmony. A feeling that was aroused by the war in the Ukraine. The conflict that exists between the pursuit of material wealth at the expense of inner contentment is expressed here. Those unspoken feelings that describe our relationship with the natural world find a voice in these poems.
