This volume is a collection of selected refereed papers presented at the Association of Teachers of Japanese Annual Spring Conference held at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in March of 2011. Doch nicht jedes Silbengedicht ist automatisch ein Haiku. Ziel der vorliegenden Hausarbeit ist es, näher in die lyrische Gattung Haiku einzuführen.Zunächst möchte ich die Geschichte des Haiku und seine Entwicklung skizzieren. Im Zuge dessen werde ich mich mit dem Vorgänger des Haiku, dem Renga näher auseinandersetzen und darauffolgend auf den sogenannten Großmeister und Begründer der heutigen Haiku-Dichtung Matsuo Basho eingehen.Anschließend daran beschäftige ich mich mit dem Aufbau des Haiku, indem ich zunächst genauer auf die japanische Schrift und danach auf den stilistischen Aufbau und die inhaltlichen Aspekte des Haiku eingehe.Abschließend möchte ich zwei weitere japanische Silbengedichte vorstellen, die durch ihre Ähnlichkeit zu dem Haiku oftmals unwissentlich damit verwechselt werden.

Allein seit dem 19. Jahrhundert gab es in Tökyö zwei große Erdbeben - das Ansei-Erdbeben von 1855 und das Große Kantö-Erdbeben von 1923 - die Tökyö zu sehr großen Teilen zerstörten. Man könnte fast sagen, dass es eine gewisse Routine gibt Tökyö wiederaufzubauen.Besonders der Wiederaufbau nach dem Erdbeben von 1923 spiegelt eine Hoffnung auf eine Chance, ein moderneres Tökyö zu erschaffen, sehr gut wieder. Durch den Wiederaufbau wurde eine neue Generation von Stadtplanern geschaffen, die dann nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg Tökyö mit ihrer Expertise wiederaufbauten.Gotö Shinpei ist dabei eine wichtige Figur, da er sich schon vor dem Erdbeben, durch seine Erfahrungen in den Kolonien sowie seinem persönlichen Interessen und später durch seine Tätigkeit als Bürgermeister von Tökyö, ausgiebig mit stadtplanerischen Themen auseinander gesetzt hat. So war er eine passende Besetzung für die Leitung des Wiederaufbau Tökyös und ist aus der Beschäftigung mit dem Wiederaufbau nach dem Kantö-Erdbeben kaum wegzudenken. Daher wird auf ihn in dieser Arbeit der Fokus gelegt und immer wieder ausführlicher erwähnt werden.

Also known as genkouyoushi or genkoyoshi paper, Kanji paper has columns of squares to practice Japanese lettering.
