The New York Times Book Review ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The first Black winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature gives us a tour de force, his first novel in nearly half a century: a savagely satiric, gleefully irreverent, rollicking fictional meditation on how power and greed can corrupt the soul of a nation. In an imaginary Nigeria, a cunning entrepreneur is selling body parts stolen from Dr. Menka's hospital for use in ritualistic practices. Dr. Menka shares the grisly news with his oldest college friend, bon viveur, star engineer, and Yoruba royal, Duyole Pitan-Payne. The life of every party, Duyole is about to assume a prestigious post at the United Nations in New York, but it now seems that someone is determined that he not make it there. And neither Dr. Menka nor Duyole knows why, or how close the enemy is, or how powerful. Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth is at once a literary hoot, a crafty whodunit, and a scathing indictment of political and social corruption. It is a stirring call to arms against the abuse of power from one of our fiercest political activists, who also happens to be a global literary giant.

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: The high rate of urbanisation and population explosion in the world has placed high demand for food especially the demand for fish, which has continued to rise. Aquaculture, therefore, has manifested as a significant means of nutritious food production, income generation and livelihood support in the lives of so many natives around the globe. Buguma community residents who were primarily into traditional fishing to earn a living can hardly go out for fishing because of pipeline vandalism triggered pollution, rape of women fisher folks and criminal activities such as piracy, kidnapping, theft, etc. in the creeks. It is apparent that there is the loss of livelihood in Buguma thus the establishment of the Buguma fish farm as an intervention project. The researcher on this note develops the nexus to investigate the perception of Buguma residents to the Buguma fish farm and its potential to revitalize the livelihood base of the area. Specific objectives of this study are: to assess the level of awareness of the Buguma aquaculture farm and its products by Buguma community residents, ascertain the residents¿ perceptions of the aquaculture farm project and its activities in terms of positive and negative impacts, identify the benefits enjoyed from the Buguma fish farm by the respondents and appraise the operational successes and challenges of the Buguma fish farm development from 2013-2016. This study was undertaken as a mixed method research with the use of convenience and stratified random sampling of households in 28 streets of Buguma. The research design used was the ¿Triangulation Mixed-Method Design¿. The number of questionnaires administered to residents¿ households was 384, while the number returned was 376. Data analysis employed descriptive statistical techniques - bar charts, pie charts, histogram with mode and percentages. In general, the result of the research work affirms that there was livelihood loss due to oil pollution from pipeline vandalism; and high level of criminal activities such as kidnapping and robbery but that the Buguma fish farm as an intervention project reinvigorated the livelihood base and improved the living standard of Buguma residents as it opened window of investment opportunities, serve as a tourism destination and provides jobs/ employment for Buguma residents. The researcher designs an agropolitan centre model for the area and recommends effective implementation.

Polemic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Didactics - Politics, Political Education, grade: 1, , course: Military Science, language: English, abstract: The current insecurity and killing of Nigerians within Nigeria is unacceptable. Our country presided over by a retired army general Muhammadu Buhari has become so unsafe that one begin to wonder what would have happened if there was war with other countries. The situation has been worsened by hunger and poverty despite our huge natural resources. Sadly, Nigeria has been judged as the poverty capital of the world with over 80 million persons living in extreme poverty. The World bank has predicted that by 2021 Nigeria will become the country with the highest number of children that die before the age of five. In the midst of these anomalies, the same politicians that have looted our treasury continue to re-invest their loot as a way of re-cycling their evil leadership and expanding their business empires. This will further impoverish my people. We must stop them!

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2017 in the subject Agrarian Studies, University of Ibadan (Department of Economics), course: Economics, language: English, abstract: The study was anchored on theories of production and supply response. A Nerlovian supply response model (1956) as modified by Karbasi and Tavana (2008) which captures the impact of trade and exchange rate reforms on agricultural commodities prices and outputs, and with acreage cultivated, labour and cost of agricultural machinery as control variables was explored. Major cash crops (cocoa, palm produce, palm kernel, groundnuts, rubber and cotton) and food (cassava, maize, yam and rice accounting for 28.0% of the 40.0% of staple food output) were purposively selected. Data were collected from the World Trade Organisation Trade Statistics, World Bank UN-COMTRADE statistics and World Development Indicators; Food and Agricultural Organisation Year Book Statistics and Agricultural Market Access Database; Central bank of Nigeriäs Statistical Bulletin and National Bureau of Statistics Annual Abstracts of Statistics. A Structural Vector Autoregression model was estimated via the generalized Impulse response functions and variance decomposition estimation techniques. All estimates were validated at p¿0.05. Trade policy shifted from a restrictive regime in 1970 to a liberalized regime starting from1995. Exchange rate policy similarly moved from a fixed regime in 1970 to a managed/float regime from 1986 to 2013. These reforms had diverse significant effects on both the prices and outputs of all sampled agricultural commodities. Trade effect was positive for palm kernel, cotton, rubber and cassava, while negative for the others. The effects were permanent across the ten commodities, while the elasticities for all the commodities range between 0.002 and 0.05. Exchange rate effect was positive for palm kernel, cotton, maize and rice, while negative for the others. The effects were also permanent except for rubber which was transitory, while elasticities for the commodities range between 0.1 and 2.3. On aggregate, the cost of machinery was found to be negatively related to the commodities outputs. A percentage increase in the cost of machinery brings about a 15.0 percent decline in output. Land and labour were positively and negatively related to output, respectively. An additional acre of land cultivation increased aggregate supply by 31.1%, while an increase in the use of labour decreased output by 19.0%.Trade and exchange rate reforms were critical in explaining the supply responses of sampled commodities, hence, the need for favourable and stable reforms.

Scientific Study from the year 2018 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, grade: 5, , language: English, abstract: This publication is intended to address notable individuals and institutions in Nigeria concerning the insecurity in the country, the weak government response and the hydra-headed corruption promoted by the wasteful bicameral legislative system of the Nigerian National Assembly headed by the President of the Senate. One of the fulcrum of this publication focuses on the manipulations of democratic principles, bogus salaries appropriated to members of the national assembly against the set law of the country. It highlights the fact that lawmakers are the real law breakers in Nigeria as they manipulate the law for personal economic gains. I have highlighted the discrepancies in governance with the purpose of exposing the loopholes and making recommendations for transparency and good governance. The fundamental goal of this publication is to fully galvanize Nigerians from all walks of life to stand up for a revolution without ammunitions in other to achieve a second independence where lies the true meaning of the country¿s motto: Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Environmental Sciences, , course: Petroleum Engineering, language: English, abstract: Oil spill is one of the most dangerous side effects of crude oil exploration and production in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria. Its resultant effect on the environment, surface body of water, ground water, and biodiversity signifies that if appropriate measures of management are not put in place, the Niger deltäs coastal habitat and inland habitat will no longer be habitat able. This paper examines the prevailing policies and procedure for the oil spill contingency planning in the Nigeria and identifies problems associated with the response action to oil spill incidents in the Niger Delta region. It also proffers solution to the problems, drawing on the wealth of experience gained from the oil spill preparedness and response put in place by some government agencies and operators across the globe. Based on this, the paper proposes a Quantitative risk based approach for the oil spill preparedness and response in the Niger Delta. This approach involves the quantification of risk as result of the probability of an event occurring and the impact potential of the event. Hence hazards and risks can be pre-determined and effective strategies could be developed to mitigate the impacts of potential oil spills.

Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, grade: B+, , language: English, abstract: The activities of the Boko Haram sects in Nigeria have negatively affected the Nigerian society. The socio-economic, political and religious aspects of the Nigerian society have a lot due to the activities of the Boko Haram sects especially in the northern parts of Nigeria. The Bishop of Kaduna Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Reverend Josiah Idowu-Fearon, observed that violence and insurgency has destroyed the economic, social and religious lives of the people of Kaduna State. This can also be said of all the Boko Haram stricken states in northern Nigeria. He pointed out that "The entire North-east of the country, Jos and Kano are almost completely isolated economically, socially and politically¿" This essay outlines and discusses some of the impacts of the Boko Haram sects on both the Church and the society in Nigeria.

Cameroon-Nigeria Relations: Trends and Perspectives, edited by Osita Agbu and C. Nna-Emeka Okereke, examines various aspects of Cameroon-Nigeria relations since the countries attained independence in 1960. The Cameroonian and Nigerian contributors contextualize core topical issues that have featured prominently in the course of bilateral relations between both countries, ranging from the theoretical underpinnings required to understand the dynamics of Cameroon-Nigeria relations to contending issues and areas of mutual interests driving diplomatic relations between them. This book reveals trends and dynamics while also accommodating divergent perspectives that demonstrate how theories can be applied to achieve real results. Of significant import is the prognosis that stimulates concerns for the future of Cameroon-Nigeria relations bearing in mind the strategic positions of both countries in West and Central Africa. Cameroon-Nigeria Relations is an indispensable resource for scholars, diplomats, and foreign policy actors that will enrich understanding and inform opinions on charting future courses for healthy bilateral relations between Cameroon and Nigeria.
