Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 60, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: This paper, drawing on academic and policy literature, as well as security and civil society reports attempts to interrogate the contributions of civil society in Nigeria to eliminating violent extremism and insecurity in the polity. Tracing the contributions of civil society in Nigeria on peace and security overtime, the paper also considers what incentives the national government can provide to encourage these strategic moves and how the civil society can work with national and international institutions to support the war against terror and insecurity of all kinds in the country. Nigeria undoubtedly is one of the hotbeds of conflict in Africa today. Apart from the intractable Boko-Haram insurgency which has claimed thousands of lives and condemned several others to Internal Displaced Person Camps scattered throughout the country; the Southern Kaduna conflict; violent clashes between the Fulani Herdsmen and Farmers all over the country, renewed surge in kidnapping in major cities and villages, agitations in the Niger Delta as well as calls for succession in the former Biafra Republic, among others, all deserve urgent intervention, a multifaceted approach from stakeholders. One fundamental cause of this dilemma is the absence of good governance in the polity. Recent studies however have shown that the interventions by Civil Society in peace and security areas have been largely dominated by foreign foundations and the civil society is still shy of participating actively in stemming this ugly trend for various reasons.
Scientific Essay from the year 2019 in the subject Social Work, University of Benin, language: English, abstract: One unique feature of the social work profession is the centrality of the person-in environment perspective. The purpose of this study is to examine the nature of social work services to internally displaced persons (IDPs). This research is a qualitative study, conducted with 15 social workers in Nigeria. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview with the participants in Abuja. Results show that social work services are largely inadequate to address the broad range of needs, issues, and concerns of displaced persons. Feasible suggestions that consider the intersectionality between people and their social environment are offered to social workers.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, grade: 4, University of Ibadan, language: English, abstract: This work articulates that Nigeriäs security is troubled by transnational crimes prevalent in West Africa by making an important argument that since West African states lack the capacity to uphold the basic demands of statehood within their territorial domains, they unavoidably serve as safe havens for trans-organized criminal networks, which has grave implications to Nigeriäs domestic concerns.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: This study investigates factors responsible for salary fraud in Bayelsa State Civil Service, Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post-facto research design. Data were gathered from secondary sources. Robert K. Merton¿s anomie theory was adopted as the study¿s theoretical framework. The study found that the crime of salary fraud persists in Bayelsa State civil service despite measures taken by government to stem it. It also discovered that the challenges such as lack of adequate funds and corruption confronting the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) are responsible for the futile prosecution of culprits. Based on these discoveries, the study recommends amongst others, that Bayelsa State Government should train Forensic accountants to man all her Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as a proactive measure to check fraud.
Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensforschung, Operations Research, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Corporate governance refers to the system through which organization are directed and controlled. Following the experiences of failed companies in America and Europe in recent times and the resultant consequence on unemployment, wealth creation and shareholder value, corporate governance has taken a centre stage worldwide especially in emerging economies such as Nigeria that can ill-afford system failure.Typically, in public corporations directors are elected by shareholders to manage the affairs of the corporate on their behalf; which by implications imposes on the directors fiduciary responsibilities. A person with fiduciary duty is a person entrusted with the power or property with the understanding that the person is working for the benefit of the individual(s) who may have entrusted them with such responsibilities ¿ therefore directors have fiduciary responsibilities to work in the best interest of shareholders and for the benefit of shareholders not in the interest of some other people or their individual interest. From all indications, the current global financial crises have revealed severe shortcoming in corporate governance across the global, there seems to be a common factor, an apparent lack of checks and balances needed by companies in order to cultivate sound business ethics bringing about the concern for improved corporate governance across all continents, this provides the needed motivation for this study. In Nigeria; for instance several public companies including local subsidiaries of western multinational companies have been criticized for various degrees of unethical practices. The case of Cadbury Nigeria PLC referred to as ¿Deliberate breaches of accounting system and controls¿, are only a tip of the ice berg in Nigeria, a country that has for many years been sapped by widespread corruption. The choice of Cadbury Nigeria Plc for this study is because of their strategic importance as industrial giant in Nigeria that are presumed to be well established and respected for decades. It is expected that this study will contribute to knowledge on corporate governance as well as proffer some solution to the shortcomings and challenges of corporate governance issues with reference to Nigeria.
Project Report from the year 2014 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Geology, Mineralogy, Soil Science, grade: B+, , course: Geology, language: English, abstract: Geological field mapping was carried out within the study area (Bajabure). Basement rocks known as the older granite suite were the dominant occurring rocks which varies texturally from the fine grained granite to medium grained granite to coarse grained granite to coarse porphyritic biotite granite. Minor suites of granite gneiss, and pegmatite were also observed in the study area. Mylonite was also observed that trend in N-S direction. The samples collected were subjected to geochemical analysis for major oxide composition using the X ray fluorescence spectrometer. Geochemical results indicates that Silica (Si02) content ranges from 72.14wt% to 74.53wt% while Aluminium oxide or Alumina (A1203) ranges from 13.26wt% to 14.57wt%. Calcium oxide (CaO) ranges from 0.53wt% to 1.00wt%. Sodium oxide (Na20) ranges from 2.03wt% to 3.63wt% while Potassium oxide (K20) ranges from 4.91wt% to 6.48wt%. Haematite (Fe203) ranges from O.63wt% to 1.59wt%, Manganese oxide (MnO) ranges from 0.005wt% to 0.017% while Magnesium oxide (MgO) ranges from 0.14wt% to 0.58wt%. Titanium oxide (Ti02) ranges from 0.109wt% to 0.441wt%. Phosphorus Pentaoxide (P205) ranges from 0.04wt% to 0.16wt%. Loss of ignition (LOI) ranges from O.46wt% to 1.35wt%. Chemical variation plots indicate that the rocks are mostly Calc.alkaline and Peraluminous. The silica content of the samples (> 66%) suggests that all the rocks are acidic and that the rocks from Bajabure are cogenetic and compares favourably with those from the Northern Cameroon volcanic line and other parts of the basement complex of Nigeria.
Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Economic Cycle and Growth, grade: 75.00, University of Geneva, course: Master of Business Administration, language: English, abstract: This project presented an investigation into the impact of microfinance banks (MFBs) on the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Abuja between the periods of (2005-2017). To achieve this, a comprehensive analysis was undertaken regarding the development of Microfinance as an economic tool, and the relevance of SMEs to the achievement of widespread economic empowerment and the alleviation of poverty in Nigeria. Aside from conventional banking services such as the acceptance of deposits and provision of credit, findings from primary research disclosed that the provision of capacity building and other supportive services were designated by the CBN as necessary for adequate development of SMEs. However information on the existence of some of these service or information regarding the measures of success experienced by SMEs in terms of growth through access to these services were difficult to ascertain. Therefore, a secondary research was undertaken on twenty-one (21) MFBs and forty-eight (48) SMEs all based in FCT Abuja, Nigeria with the aim of investigating the factors surrounding the rendering of capacity building and other core microfinance services as prescribed by the CBN. Findings revealed that only a fraction of identifiable CBN-described capacity building services were offered to SMEs by MFBs ¿ services such as credit application training were focused on while other important capacity building services such as ¿book keeping¿, ¿quality assessment¿ and ¿sales/marketing¿ were largely ignored. Conclusive results revealed that there was not a significant indication of growth impacted on SMEs by MFBs. Findings rather suggested that there is a lot more that needed to be done in order for MFBs to effectively make an impact on the growth of SMEs. In conclusion, careful analyses of findings of the study were indicative of a need for more regulation within the MFB industry in order to ensure the execution of exclusive SME targeted Microfinance services, which would in-turn, facilitate economical growth within and outside the SME and MFB sectors. It was also recommended that special Microfinance resources (separate from those available to commercial banks) be made available to enable MFBs the capability to effectively and efficiently execute services that will be beneficial to the growth of SMEs.
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2018 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: The study examined the impact of sea robbery on artisanal fishing in Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The study is survey based; A Sample of 400 was derived using Taro Yamane sample size determination technique. Questionnaires and oral interview were the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC). The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between sea robbery and artisanal fishing which implies that the continuing existence of the activities of sea robbers in our territorial waters will result to poor fish harvest because fishermen are scared of fishing in deep waters where there is fish abundance. Consequent upon this, it is recommended, among others, community policing especially hotspots communities along the waterways and creeks of the Niger Delta region.
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Geology, Mineralogy, Soil Science, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: Water is one of the most important natural resources that man is endowed with. Water is next to air as a major sustainer of life in addition to serving as a vital substance for human existence. It plays a major role in progress of our life and National development. In Nigeria majority of the water used domestically in villages, towns and cities are from the ground water resources.Water quality comprises of knowing the Geology and hydrogeology and environmental of the area of interest. In studying the Geology of an area one has to know the different rock types that bear the water in that area and the structures associated with it. Hydrogeology is area of geology that deals with the distribution and movement of groundwater in the soil and rocks of the earth¿s crust. It deals with flow of water through aquifers and other shallow porous media. The main aims and objectives of the study are as follows;1. Determine the ground water quality in the boreholes and hand dug wells in the area and its suitability for domestic and agricultural uses.2. To provide information for the use of organizations interested in ground water resource development in the area.3. To satisfy one of the requirements for the award of degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in applied Geology at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.

Englisch-Zentralabitur 2021 in Nordrhein-Westfalen Voices from the African Continent: Focus on NigeriaNigeria - Briten und Boko Haram?

A work of synthesis on plantation slavery in nineteenth century Sokoto caliphate, engaging with major debates on internal African slavery, on the meaning of the term "e;plantation,"e; and on comparative slaveryA large-scale study of plantation slavery in West Africa with a focus on the nineteenth-century Sokoto caliphate, this book draws on diverse sources including oral testimony, Arabic material, and extant scholarly works about the caliphal state. Plantation Slavery in the Sokoto Caliphate: A Historical and Comparative Study offers new views on various fundamental issues including the definition of blackness in the Sokoto caliphate, the meaning of theterm "e;plantation,"e; the significance of plantation slavery in the caliphal state, and the role of slavery in the context of African states. Author Mohammed Bashir Salau analyzes key themes in the history of plantation slavery, especially plantation management and the acquisition, treatment, and control of slaves. Building on this analysis, Salau points to previously unknown ways in which the caliphal state prevented the development of serfdom, arguing that while social and economic factors played a role in the rise of slavery in the Sokoto caliphate, conscious political choice was the major factor for the rise and maintenance of plantation slavery. This study will be of major interest to students and scholars of slavery in Africa in general and in the Sokoto Caliphate in particular; in addition, through its comparative discussion it contributes to the literature on second slavery. Mohammed Bashir Salau is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Mississippi.
