So ließen sich auch viele Menschen aus dem deutschsprachigen Gebiet und aus Ländern mit anderen germanischen Sprachen, etwa aus den Niederlanden oder aus Skandinavien, dort nieder. In Teilen haben sich Sprachgemeinschaften bis heute erhalten können. Der vorliegende Band widmet sich solchen Gemeinschaften, die heute Sprachminderheiten darstellen. In zwölf Beiträgen werden hoch- und niederdeutsche Sprachgemeinschaften sowie die dänische Sprachgemeinschaft in Argentinien in den Blick genommen. Dabei werden auch methodische Fortschritte ¿ z.B. durch den Aufbau von Korpora ¿ und neue Forschungsansätze durch Einbindung mehrsprachiger, didaktischer oder ökonomischer Perspektiven aufgezeigt.

I sit relativt korte liv udgav Tom Smidth (1887-1942) fem digtsamlinger i perioden 1920-1925:De skønne Skyer - Martins Forlag 1920Længslernes Bog - Martins Forlag 1921Solbilleder i Unge Digteres Foraarsbog - Klintes Forlag 1922Hav og Stjerner - Klintes Forlag 1923Kærtegn - Martins Forlag 1925I 2020 udgav forlaget Laanshøj e-bogen Digte, som indeholdt 106 digte af Tom Smidth. Disse digte var oprindeligt trykt i litterære tidsskrifter og aviser i årene 1908-1942. Den trykte udgave udkom samme år på forlaget BoD - Books on Demand.I nærværende Nye digte er trykt 129 hidtil upublicerede digte samt 3 samlinger af epigrammer og aforismer af Tom Smidth. Mange af disse digte havde Tom Smidth planlagt til udgivelse i to samlinger: Ensomme Sange fra hans studieår i Heidelberg 1908-1909 og Lejlighedsdigte skrevet mellem 1908 og senest 1919. 10 af digtene går igen i begge samlinger - her er trykt den seneste version af hvert af de 10 digte. Efter disse samlinger følger seks kærlighedsdigte til hans senere hustru, indledt med det oprindelige titelblad. De resterende mange digte er trykt i to grupper, daterede digte i kronologisk rækkefølge og udaterede digte i alfabetisk orden; nogle af digtene findes i flere versioner, hvoraf den seneste er trykt her. Forfatterens retskrivning er gengivet uændret. Samtlige manuskripter findes i Håndskriftafdelingen på Det Kongelige Bibliotek.Tom Smidth tilhørte den gruppe af digtere, som efter første verdenskrig søgte den klassiske skønhed i såvel form (fx madrigal, sonet, villanelle, ritornel) som rim og også refererer direkte til de klassiske forfattere ved at nævne deres navne eller titler på deres værker. I flere episke digte skriver han urimet prosa, ofte af stort omfang. Hans sprog er præcist og indeholder en del fremmedord. Specielt i de tidlige digte, bl.a. fra Heidelberg, er sproget ofte ungdommeligt friskt og med erotiske undertoner - men formen var også dengang stram.
