In August 1916 the Kingdom of Romania (Wallachia and Moldova) entered World War One, which by 1918 led to a union with Transylvania and Bessarabia. This book considers the contribution of women to the achievement of the Romanian national project, includingthe role of bourgeoisie and middle-class women, the position of women in rural areas, and love, sex, and eroticism in wartime. Alin Ciupala also presents portraits of feminine personalities, among them Queen Mary with her participation in the organization of campaign hospitals, her role in supplying the civil population with food and necessary goods, and her presence among the soldiers and in foreign propaganda in favor of Romanian causes. Another example is Ecaterina Teodoroiu, the only woman in Romania to served as an officer, who died on the battlefield leading soldiers under her command. Beyond women's contribution to the war, the book examines the effects of World War One on gender roles in Romania . Feminist leaders expected that a wartime 'training service' would entitle women to a life withfull rights as citizens. Yet after the war, the situation returned to "normal," and women largely continued to be excluded from the public sphere.

Vorliegender Sammelband ist der gegenwärtigen Variationsbreite des Deutschen gewidmet. Angesichts der fast vollständigen Aussiedlung der deutschsprachigen Bevölkerung nach der letzten Auswanderungswelle Anfang der 1990er-Jahre wurde das Fortbestehen der deutschen Sprache in Rumänien als gefährdet eingeschätzt. Trotz geschwächter Position in Kirche und Schule wird Deutsch weiterhin in den Medien und in der Literatur gebraucht. Der Band dokumentiert daher vornehmlich die gegenwärtige Sprachsituation und den veränderten Status des Deutschen als Minderheitensprache in Rumänien, wobei aus variations- und medienlinguistischer Sicht das Profil der rumäniendeutschen Standardvarietät erfasst wird.

Als Region weist das Banat zahlreiche Eigenheiten auf, die auf seine spezifische geografische Lage, der multi- und interkulturellen Prägung seiner Struktur und der kulturellen Vielfalt seiner Menschen zurückzuführen sind. Der Band lädt ein, sich mit den Eigenheiten der lokalen und regionalen Verwaltung im Banat vertraut zu machen. Er legt den Fokus auf die Entwicklung der spezifischen Kultur, thematisiert das Einwirken von Ideologien, stellt einzelne Persönlichkeiten heraus und analysiert wichtige Gemeinschaftsinstitutionen. Das wichtigste Ziel der Beiträger/-innen und des Herausgebers ist es, die Bewohner/-innen des Banats selbst sichtbar werden zu lassen, ihre historischen Erfahrungen zu reflektieren, ihre Mentalitäten zu beschreiben und den Wandel ihrer Einstellungsmuster im Zeitverlauf darzustellen. Im vorliegenden Band geht es um weit mehr als um die Abfolge von geschichtlichen Ereignissen oder eine Aufzählung von Fakten. Durch seine interdisziplinäre Herangehensweise werden Grenzen der traditionellen Geschichtsschreibung überschritten. Victor Neumann ersetzt den üblichen politisch motivierten Schreibstil durch eine liberale und offene Erzählweise, die nicht nur grenzüberschreitend ist, sondern auch viele Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten eröffnet.

Für Ungarn und seine Nebenländer als der östliche Teil der Habsburgermonarchie eröffnete sich nach der Beseitigung der Herrschaft der Osmanen aus dem mittleren Donauraum (1699, 1718) die Chance zu einer Neuentwicklung. An in-depth investigation of the Romanian secret police's file on Müller, winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature, re-creating a "file story" of her surveillance."Herta Müller should share her Nobel with the Securitate." This comment by a former officer in the Romanian secret police, or Securitate, was in reaction to hearing that Müller, a German writer originally from Romania, had won the 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature. Communist Romania's infamous secret police was indeed a protagonist in Müller's work, though an undesired and dreaded one: most of her writings are deeply and explicitly anchored in Ceau?escu's Romania and her own traumatic experiences with the Securitate. Müller's file traces her surveillance from 1983 until after she emigrated to West Germany in 1987. She has written extensively in reaction to reading her file, but primarily addresses its gaps, begging the question what information the file does in fact contain. This book is an in-depth investigation of Müller's file, and engages with other related files, including that of her then-husband, the writer Richard Wagner. Valentina Glajar treats the files as primary sources in order to re-create the story of Müller's surveillance by the Securitate. In such an intrusive culture of surveillance, surviving the system often meant a certain degree of entanglement: for victims, collaborators, and implicated subjects alike. Veiled in secrecy for decades, these compelling and complex documents shed light on a boundary between victims and perpetrators as porous as the Iron Curtain itself.

One of the most striking aspects of abbé d'Aubignac's fictional output is that the principal focus of his work is women. D'Aubignac's attempt to articulate his philosophy about the female sex is very much an intricate balancing act. While he is clearly interested in women, placing them on a pedestal in many of his writings, the abbé imposes limitations on their perceived innate qualities and often embraces the notion of the female as a societal scapegoat. All the Abbé's Women explores how these ideas were influenced by the socio-political conditions of d'Aubignac's time, resulting in a complex inter-relationship between the notions of power and misogyny in the author's fictional and critical works. The study also aims to contribute to the scholarship on d'Aubignac, painting a portrait of the abbé that has not been the focus of previous books. The work will appeal to students of French literature, gender studies and the cultural history of Early Modern France.

Attualmente la Chiesa cattolica è di fronte a una situazione straordinaria: la presenza di due Papi ¿ Papa Benedetto XVI e Papa Francesco - che non potrebbero essere più diversi. Devono comunque confrontarsi con le stesse tematiche di questo decennio e hanno lo stesso incarico: spiegare la fede alla comunità cristiana. Entrambi spiegano la fede secondo le loro opinioni nelle omelie, usando varie metafore concettuali. Per questo è stato interessante analizzare, quali concetti metaforici vengono usati da due Papi così diversi per spiegare la fede. Si sono ottenuti risultati interessanti riguardo a come i Papi, attraverso l¿uso di precisi concetti metaforici, presentano se stessi e le loro immagini di Dio e a come un credente si dovrebbe comportare. Attraverso l¿uso di metafore concettuali, non sono soltanto riusciti a spiegare concetti astratti della fede. Sono anche riusciti a trasmettere concetti da loro stessi forgiati e definiti, che si radicano nella mente dei credenti senza che questi se ne accorgano. Influenzano così non solo il linguaggio religioso, ma anche il pensiero e il comportamento del singolo credente.

This study will present the few results obtained during an investigation which, carried out for about twenty years, in a region, known for its rich historical, sociological, anthropological, memorial and linguistic past. Moreover, we speak of Tlemcenois, a melting pot of knowledge and ancestral culture because of the importance of the socio-anthropological heritage of the ancient civilizations, being of passage or established since several generations.This work focuses on the local speech where the lexicography, between phraseologisms and pragmatics, finds its place, socio-anthropologically speaking, in the verbal discussions that individuals hold in their respective speech.The main objective is to be able to present a corpus which, grouping together phraseologisms and pragmathemes, has allowed us to put forward an analysis approach that we have called STAR (Meaning, Translation, Acception, Reflection). This approach is based on four principles to understand a phraseology or a pragmathema, in the context of a discursive exchange in an Algerian language, in Tlemcen and in its hawz.
