Hvem kender ikke Svend Poulsen Gjønge, hans tro følgesvend Ib, Kulsoen, kaptajn Kernbok og alle de andre fra beretningen om den dansk/skånske frihedshelt (han kommer fra Gjöinge i Skåne), der bl. a. opererede på Sydsjælland under Svenskekrigene i 1600-tallet - om ikke andet, så fra de talrige mere eller mindre mishandlede udgaver for børn og unge, eller fra film og tv-serier. Her er han i al sin uforkortede glans, sammen med fortsættelsen Dronningens vagtmester, hvor Svend Gjønge og Ib har påtaget sig at bringe så mange som muligt af fru Elsebeths værdigenstande væk fra herregården Gjorslev - og fra den griske besættelsesmagt, først og fremmest repræsenteret ved kaptajn Esner, der ikke lader sig række en sølvkop uden straks at tilrane sig hele stellet. Det går naturligvis ikke stille af. Ib bliver fængslet på Gjorslev, og vor gamle bekendt Kulsoen har også sin grimme finger med i spillet her og der.

In 1644 the University of Copenhagen established its first anatomical theatre. In addition to the instruction of students, research was also carried out in the Anatomy House. Here Thomas Bartholin, the Professor of Anatomy, demonstrated the thoraic duct and later the lymphatic vessels in a human being, an achievement that has brought him fame. In 1662 Thomas Bartholin published A Short Description of the Anatomy House in Copenhagen, which meticulously describes the layout of the Anatomy House alongside the first eighteen years of its history. This volume presents Bartholin's book for the first time in English, as well as the original Latin text, enabling a broader audience to draw on its various and detailed accounts. A commentary and an introduction as well as rich body of illustrations make this edition a valuable resource for historians of medicine.Niels W. Han blev uddannet dr.phil. i 1908 ved Københavns Universitet, hvor han senere blev først professor og så rektor. Axel Nielsen skrev en lang række bøger og afhandlinger om nationaløkonomi, statsvidenskab og samfundshistorie. Han var medlem af Videnskabernes Selskab, Kommandør af 1. grad af Dannebrog og Dannebrogsmand.

This volume contains the full text of a previously unpublished minute book of the Dorset Standing Committee from early 1646. The entries illustrate the various duties of the Parliamentary authorities charged with managing the county as the civil war progressed. Selected letters and papers from the Strangways family archive demonstrate the difficulties faced by families who had found themselves on the 'wrong' side. Particularly they highlight the role that Royalist women played in maintaining the family estates and households while their husbands and sons were imprisoned or living in exile. The editor, Tim Goodwin, author of Dorset in the Civil War, has provided a full introduction and the volume is comprehensively indexed.

My motivation for this story lies not only in writing about the fascinating times that shaped modern Britain, but in a person al connection with Samuel. The first house he built and lived in with his wife, where he started his family, is called Hall Place in Sparsholt, Oxfordshire. It was built in 1623 and celebrates its quatercentenary this year. Sieges dominated the English Civil Wars: one study suggests that for every major battle there were perhaps as many as eight sieges, and probably more than 200 towns, castles, and country homes in England were besieged. However, sieges and fortifications have long been the poor relation in the histories of the period. While up and down the country, numerous siege-sites and fortresses are being studied by historians and archaeologists, so much of this is being done in relative isolation, and unlike the study of battles, seldom has there been an opportunity to bring this research together, to present and compare findings.To provide a forum for experts and the curious alike to share results and to learn from one another was a key driver behind the first ever conference dedicated to the study of fortress warfare during the English Civil Wars. Newark-upon-Trent was besieged three times during the English Civil Wars, and is home to perhaps the best surviving fortifications in the country. It was appropriate, therefore, that the town should host the English Civil War Fortress Symposium in November 2022.The co-hosts of the symposium, the Battlefields Trust, and the Fortress Study Group have both run their own conferences in the past, but this symposium was the first time that these two internationally renowned organizations have come together to stage a joint event. The success of the symposium was a recognition of the standing of both societies, as well as the efforts of the organizers. Valitettavasti hienostoelämän ihanuuksiin tykästyneet neitoset elättelevät niin romanttisia kuvitelmia, etteivät Gorgibusin valitsemat kumppaniehdokkaat heille kelpaa. Tästäkös suivaantuvat niin Gorgibus kuin itse sulhaskokelaat. Nenäkkäille naisille täytyy antaa opetus.Sulhasehdokkaat lähettävät palvelijansa, hienoiksi puettuina ja ylhäisiä herrasmiehiä teeskennellen, tapaamaan nuoria naisia. Nämä rakastuvat täyttä päätä, eivätkä ollenkaan osaa epäillä joutuvansa huijatuksi. Kun hienojen herrojen todellinen henkilöllisyys selviää, on itse kullakin ajattelemisen aihetta.Ranskalainen Molière (1622–1673), oikealta nimeltään Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, tunnetaan erityisesti kirjoittamistaan humoristisista näytelmistä. Poquelin otti käyttöön Molière-nimen, kun alkoi työskennellä näyttelijänä. Molièren tunnetuimpia näytelmiä ovat muun muassa Tartuffe sekä Sievistelevät hupsut.

I dag er han direktør for Skoleskibet Georg Stage og bestyrelsesformand for Brandbjerg Højskole.
