Sixty years after the Dallas shootings - and despite more and more documents becoming available - a multitude of myths continue to surround the most famous assassination attempt of the 20th century. With his work, the author tries to bring a little more light into the thicket of conspiracy theories and facts, especially for the layperson. The aim should be to be able to form an opinion based on undisputed facts, even without any specialist knowledge and purely on the basis of common sense.

Engañó a Oppenhiemer.
How a reluctant soldier and ranger, excelling in reconnaissance, intelligence, and covert operations, details his journey post-Cold War training to the War on Terror.I am a soldier and a ranger - a specialist in reconnaissance, intelligence, and covert operations. I never wanted to be a soldier, but I found that I excelled at it. I have fired my weapons in anger, infiltrated terrorist groups, and made and burnt sources. Number 788 is my story.Being good at doing bad things is not always a blessing. You can't be the judge, only the executioner. The concept of 'for the greater good' always has a flip side. You are moving and living in the shadows. The ones in control grant you the ultimate power of life, but a life lived in the shadows is never your own.My development was slow and meticulous; it was improvised and innovative. Now, I write about what it was like to be pushed past the brink of what I thought was humanly possible. I aim to share my flawed path, lessons learned, relationships forged, revelations of self and the workings of others, with the very small hope of inspiring a few new generation warriors.I was trained at a unique time, as I joined the forces after the Cold War but just before the attacks of 9-11. During my formation, the lack of controls and regulation came with tremendous risks but also significant opportunities - I seized them. I am the product of brave officers who took action with great personal risk to save a regiment without permission and by asking for forgiveness later. Officers who believed in the saying, 'Who Dares Wins'. I share my small place as a silent mediator between the light and shadows in the long and flawed history of Western and Nordic fighters. The end of the Cold War and subsequent peacekeeping missions caught the Swedish military flatfooted when the War on Terror came around. The need for special operations forces was in high demand, but for the most part, Sweden lacked this niche capability. While still in its conceptual form, the International Ranger Platoon, an elite force that became a Special Purpose Unit within the Ranger Battalion, was used to fill the gap. Newly recruited, I was drawn to the challenge and adventure of it all; I took on the tough selection course - the reward was to be part of something new - the Special Purpose Units.
"John (Jack) Downey, Jr., was a new Yale graduate in the post-World War II years who, like other Yale grads, was recruited by the CIA. He joined the Agency and was sent to Japan in 1952, during the Korean War. In a violation of protocol, he took part in an air drop that failed and was captured over China. His sources on the ground had been compromised, and his identity was known. Although he first tried to deny who he was, he eventually admitted the truth. But government policy forbade ever acknowledging the identity of spies, no matter the consequences. Washington invented a fictitious cover story and stood by it for four administrations. As a result, Downey was imprisoned during the decades that Red China, as it was called, was considered by the US to be a hostile nation, until 1972, when the US finally recognized the mainland Chinese government. He had spent twenty-one years in captivity. Downey would go on to become a lawyer and an esteemed judge in Connecticut, his home state. Prisoner of Lies is based in part on a prison memoir that Downey wrote several years after his release. Barry Werth fluently weaves excerpts from the memoir with the Cold War events that determined Downey's fate. Like a le Carrâe novel, this is a 'thrilling, richly informative' (Stephen Kinzer, author of The Brothers) story of one man whose life is at the mercy of larger forces outside of his control; in Downey's case as a pawn of the Cold War, and more specifically the Oval Office and the State Department. His freedom came only when US foreign policy dramatically changed. Above all, Prisoner of Lies is an inspiring story of remarkable fortitude and resilience.""--
"Fallen Comrade: A Story of the Korean War tells the story of three young men from Clinton, Mississippi, who served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Waller King, Joe Albritton, and Homer Ainsworth were childhood friends who grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools, attended the same church, and eventually joined the same Marine Corps reserve unit in Jackson. Through extensive interviews with people who knew them, as well as excerpts from their letters and journals, this volume traces the life experiences of King, Albritton, and Ainsworth through their adolescence and into the war. Despite their shared origins, the three young men met different fates. Ainsworth was in Korea just two months before he was killed. Albritton and King returned home after the war, but Albritton died tragically in an automobile accident mere weeks later. King went on to college and experienced success in business, the joys of a family, and the rewards of community service, all of which were denied his childhood friends by their early deaths. Part biography and part military history, Fallen Comrade examines what happened to three young men from Clinton, their childhood in small-town Mississippi, their service as Marines in Korea, and their legacy to their hometown"--
Timeless photos offer a rare portrait of the jubilant, vibrant, vital, nearly hidden, and now all-but-vanished world of small-town Black rodeos.
A deep look at Christina Ramberg’s life and work, the origins of her influential investigations of form and femininity, and the evolution of her artistic vision
After serving a 1 1/2 year tour in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division and surviving a total of 8 years, 9 months and 21 Days in the US Army, Russ Warriner learned he had PTSD. Dealing with the Combat Memories he calls Combat Demons is a lifelong struggle. Writing about my combat life and the aftermath has become one of his outlets. Becoming a life member of many veteran groups as well as starting a group that served in my type of unit and starting a POW/MIA weekend event has served me well to deal with the demons. Everyone who has PTSD deals with these demons in their own way. If this book can help at least one person to understand PTSD or help them deal with their demons, I feel it was worth the effort I put into writing it.

Known simply as The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial lists the names of over 58,000 soldiers who died in Southeast Asia during one of this country's deadliest military conflicts. And behind each of these names is a story waiting to be told...a story of patriotism, service to country, and sacrifice to the principles of democracy. There's the story of the Edison 64 from Edison High School in Philadelphia, the dozen soldiers from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chicago, and the brotherhood of the Morenci 9 and the Midvale three. Also appearing among the wall's 70 black granite panels are the names of over 3,000 soldiers from Ohio, including eleven young men from one of Ohio's least populated counties, Monroe County. Strikingly, over half of those soldiers from the county that died were from the small village of Beallsville...bestowing upon the village of less than 400 the unwanted distinction of having the highest per-capita casualty rate of any U.S. community during the conflict. While other works may have been written about these eleven young men, those works only skimmed the surface of their lives. This work delves into the similarities of their young lives and the differences that brought about their untimely deaths. Along with their families, these young men gave so much, and their stories need...no, they demand...to be told. Everyone Has a Story, and this is theirs.
"In the immediate aftermath of its successful revolution, Cuba was heralded by socialist nations as the vanguard of communism in Latin America in the early 1960s. But by the late 1980s, Cuba's inability to adopt the modes of socialist planning and Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms had deeply soured the relationship between Havana and the Soviet-led Socialist Bloc. While secondary literature often highlights Cuba's political and economic relations with Washington and Moscow, Havana's ideological, political, and economic relations with the East European states have received considerably less attention. This book aims to fill this gap by offering a detailed chronological account of how Cuba's post-revolutionary development was influenced by East European diplomats. Outside of their roles as representatives of their respective states, East European diplomats were entrusted with the task of educating local Cuban leadership in the intricacies of Marxism-Leninism, steering Cuba's governors onto the "correct path of development," helping them eradicate "erroneous ideas" of economic development, and showing them the validity of socialist "morals and ideology." By considering these developments and analyzing firsthand accounts of East European diplomats' experiences in Havana, historian Radoslav Yordanov reconstructs the thinking of East European diplomats and specialists in their dealings with Cuba from the 1960s to the 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union, shedding new light on Cuba's role in the global Cold War"--
This book explores the true story of the preparation, implementation, and consequences of the U-2 reconnaissance flights over the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Cuba between 1956 and 1962.
Football is the heartbeat of Brownwood, Texas. Every Friday night for as long as assistant principal Tylene Wilson can re-member, the entire town has gathered in the stands, cheering their boys on. Each September brings with it the hope of a good season and a sense of unity and optimism. Now, the war has changed everything. Most of the Brownwood men over eighteen and under forty-five are off fighting, and in a small town the possibilities are limited. Could this mean a season without football? But no one counted on Tylene, who learned the game at her daddy's knee. She knows more about it than most men, so she does the unthinkable, convincing the school to let her take on the job of coach.Faced with extreme opposition?by the press, the community, rival coaches, and referees and even the players themselves?Tylene remains resolute. And when her boys rally around her, she leads the team and the town to a Friday night and a subsequent season they will never forget.
Emerging from a period of uncertainty, Plan B outlines an approach that places flexibility and creative "intra-actions" at its core. Plan B explores possible means of transcending established conventions and negotiating unforeseen situations. It serves as an invitation to explore the transformative power that resonates within the intra-sections in art and beyond, emphasizing how subtle shifts can trigger a positive "intra-action" across such varied fields as literature, philosophy and physics. Plan B offers a fresh perspective that fosters our creativity by encouraging us to perceive the world from novel angles and actively shape positive change. Presented in both Slovak and English, Plan B is an invitation to an intellectual celebration where the realms of knowledge and creativity converge. Enriched with a diversity of European artistic concepts and illustrations, the book will delight and fascinate all who enjoy reading and exploring. Felicitas Thun Hohenstein: PLAN B: is: PLAN A - is: an inspiring and groundbreaking work that opens up new horizons with an intra-disciplinary and intra-active approach to our world and insightfully demonstrates how the creative power of thought and action can be utilized in an ever-changing context. This book is a much-needed guide to reshaping our thinking and action, insofar as art and sciences are not merely representative and imitative endeavours, but open-ended processes that leave neither the objects involved nor the subjects unchanged and which possess profound commonalities.
Fifteen Minnesota nurses spent a year caring for the casualties of a divisive war, only to come home and descend into isolated silence. To heal themselves, they banded together as veterans.
Cante Pri, is the result of the work with 10 year old students in a Social Sciences classroom at School No. 48 "América Latina" in the city of Tres Arroyos. The question that initiates the research work, comes from a student after sharing a talk with Alberto Cellerino, former local combatant of the Malvinas War. From that moment on, people and facts marked the path that still today we do not know where it will take us. We prefer that the universe continues to surprise us and that hopefully also before the end of this year it will allow us to know OUR beloved Islands. Since I was a child in my family I was made to love my country and its history. Today as a teacher I try to create awareness and knowledge in my students, because I believe that the only way to assert our rights and fight for what is rightfully ours is through knowledge and the word. Always understanding that wars make no sense, that they only involve losses and that regardless of the outcome, the result will always be negative. Thanks to my little giants for teaching me every day that a better world is still possible.
