  • af Alton Delmore
    208,95 kr.

The Delmore Brothers—Alton and Rabon Delmore—molded blues and country-gospel into an influential, guitar-driven harmony sound with classic songs such as “Brown’s Ferry Blues” and “Blues Stay Away from Me.” Older brother Alton also left behind this fascinating, long-unpublished autobiography, which brings to life the early Grand Ole Opry and the struggles of pioneering country musicians. Edited by historian Charles K. Wolfe, The Delmore Brothers: Truth is Stranger Than Publicity lives up to its title.

  • af Ed Madden
    243,95 kr.

A Story of the City: Poems Occasional and Otherwise When Ed Madden was named poet laureate for the City of Columbia, South Carolina, in 2015, he became the first city laureate in the state of South Carolina. During his two terms as city laureate, Madden documented the life and history of the city. He engaged the community by making poetry a public art, posting poems on city buses, sidewalks, movie screens, coffee sleeves, restaurant menus, and faux parking tickets distributed in downtown Columbia one bright and sunny April Fool's Day. While these poems are about a specific city, they ring true for almost any Southern city-maybe any city in America-with its ceremonial occasions and its natural disasters, its misleading public monuments and its protest marches, and its inevitably complex histories. His post officially began with a commemoration of the historic burning of Columbia during the American Civil War and ended with the selection of a new city flag. This collection spans either years of ceremony and controversy, an eclipse and a pandemic, welcomes and elegies, history and hope.

By: Atlanta Town Committee, Pub. 1962, reprinted 2023, 200 pages, New Index, soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-137-1. The records were compiled for the Department of Archivers and History of the State of Georgia. Georgia's colonial period starts with the Charter signed by King George II in 1732 and ends at the close of the Revolutionary War in 1777. Many of the colonial records have been lost due to war and neglect. During the Civil War the most important records were loaded on wagons and hauled to Charleston, SC. From there they were moved to Newbern, NC then to upper Virginia and finally to Maryland. They were not returned to Savannah until 1783 again by wagon. Wills were not considered the most important papers and did not make the wagon transfers. Some of these early records ended up in the Tower of London where they remained until 1801. The wills within this book are those that were found in trunks within the Tower of London.
