In 1994, I lived through the state-led genocide that targeted the Tutsi population in Rwanda, resulting in over one million brutal deaths. The country was plunged into darkness for 100 days, with no hope in sight. But I emerged from the tragedy alive, and this book is my account of the journey through the valley of death.As one of the survivors, I share my experience of the genocide and how I managed to stay alive despite being engulfed in fear and despair. Waiting in the "antechamber of death" with other Tutsi people, I hoped for a divine rescue. My strong will and survival tactics helped me to stay alive, and I eventually moved to the UK to rebuild my life.Through this book, I want to ensure that future generations never forget the atrocities that occurred during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda: My intention is not just to tell my story but to pay tribute to all those who suffered and were unable to share their own stories. Never witnessed or photographed by an outsider, it disappeared in the 1950s along with most ritual performance after an Islamic jihad instated strict prohibitions against indigenous religions. The ritual context is followed by an in-depth analysis of the Serpent masquerade figures now extant in collections in Europe, the Americas, and Africa, as well as other representations of the python in the ritual art of the region. The final sections present the arguments, as a debate, between interested persons in the arts, including art historians, dealers, appraisers, collectors, and curators, and the scientific examinations by specialists in botany, chemistry, physics, entomology, and conservation concerning one particular Serpent figure in question.

The liberation struggle in South Africa ended apartheid and the last stronghold of colonialism in Africa. This struggle attracted the support of many African countries that contributed and helped the oppressed people of South Africa towards free elections. Nigeria is among the countries in Africa that contributed some of the most significant assistance to the anti-apartheid movement. As democracy and majority government replaced apartheid in South Africa, many young South Africans (the so-called 'born free') are not aware of the contributions of Nigeria in the history of the liberation struggle. The book blames this ignorance on a deliberate policy of silence by the government and media in South Africa.

Going to South Africa when he was 19, he travelled from the Cape of Good Hope to Matabeleland, which he reached early in 1872, and where (according to his own account) he was granted permission by Lobengula, King of the Ndebele, to shoot game anywhere in his dominions.
