En forårsdag i 1979 bliver oversygeplejersken på privathospitalet Skodsborg Badesanatorium, Bodil Lund, hovedperson i en indsamling af medicin og hospitalsudstyr til adventisternes hospital i Uganda. Hospitalet er plyndret efter kampe, hvor diktatoren gennem otte år, Idi Amin, er blevet drevet på flugt. Indsamlingen går over al forventning, og den bliver startskuddet til en utrolig historie om en sygeplejerske, som kæmper for en vigtig sag, og derfor insisterer på at blive hørt. Hun har fået danske firmaer til at donere medicin, udstyr, tøj, møbler, ambulancer og sågar en hel skadestue, og på 40 år er det blevet til medicin for over en halv milliard kroner, foruden store mængder hospitalsudstyr. Det hele har hun fået fragtet til de mes tudsatte mennesker i verden med skibscontainere. Hendes virke har gennem tiden kastet hende ud i absurde situationer, hvor hun har måttet sætte sit eget liv på spil i Uganda, og hvor hun er blevet ringet op på sit kontor på Skodsborg Badesanatorium af Ægyptens præsident Anwar Sadat og er blevet bedt om at holde en afrikansk ambassadør skjult i Danmark for at redde hans liv.Den dokumentariske roman om Bodil Lund er en historie om at tro på, at man kan gøre en vigtig forskel i verden, eller som hun selv siger: Nogle mennesker har svært ved at se muligheder. Hun har bl.a. været optaget af mulighederne for, at kvinder og mænds rettigheder kan vinde indpas, både lokalt, nationalt og globalt. Possing arbejder med menneskeskæbner og det, der sker, når vi møder hinanden på tværs af lande, kulturer, køn, alder og klasse. I dag bor Possing i København, men rejser jævnligt til Uganda.

Uganda is probably the best country to visit for access to African butterflies, with a wide range of habitats and a very pleasant climate all year round. The road network is good, providing access to accommodation that is clean, with good food and a warm welcome.This second edition has 70 colour plates, 14 more than the first edition, with 96 more photographs, covering 33 more species. All photographs were taken during five visits to Uganda, between 2016 and 2020, mostly, but not exclusively, in places that visitors will go to see other animals, such as birds, chimpanzees or gorillas.The major habitats can be roughly equally divided between savannah and forest, both of which are comfortable to walk in and offer a rich selection of butterflies, with about 1270 species on the list, about double what South Africa has to offer. Efter tre år i Uganda opstår der et militærkup, hvor tyrannen Idi Amin dukker op. Manden, som bliver kendt for at kaste sine fjender ned til krokodillerne i Nilen. The book discusses police practices in Uganda, which are understood as fluid and reflective of the socio-political, cognitive and discursive contexts within which the Uganda Police Force (UPF) exist. The author was immersed in the UPF both as an ethnographer and a consultant. The book demonstrates how police officers navigate clashes between personal interests and those of the UPF shedding more light on the divergences and convergences between policies in theory and policies in practice. It contributes to the literature on police research, especially to our understanding of policing and the anthropology of the state in Africa. It highlights that the Ugandan police engages in political policing and its role is stretched beyond its legal mandate. The target audience is twofold: first, academics interested in police studies and the undercurrents of interface bureaucracies in Africa. Second, practitioners focused on improving state and police services in African contexts.

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Agrarian Studies, grade: 75%, Uganda Management Institute, course: Business Administration (Master's), language: English, abstract: This study aimed at establishing the contribution of internal control systems towards the performance of agricultural SMEs in Eastern Uganda, with a case study of SMEs in Mbale district. The study objectives were (i) To examine the extent to which assets controls predict the performance of agricultural SMEs in Mbale district; (ii) To establish the extent to which financial controls predict the performance of agricultural SMEs in Mbale district; (iii) To assess the extent to which compliance controls predict the performance of agricultural SMEs in Mbale district; The study was conducted through a case study on agricultural SMEs in Mbale District.The results of multiple regression analysis between assets control and SME performance noted an adjusted R2 value of 0.194 implying that generally 19% of total variability in SME performance is explained by assets control mechanisms; while the analysis between financial control and SME performance showed an adjusted R2 value of 0.097 implying that generally 9.7% of total variability in SME performance is explained by financial control mechanisms and an adjusted R2 value of 0.131 between compliance control and SME performance implying that generally 13.1% of total variability in SME performance is explained by compliance control mechanisms. The conclusion was that generally, there is a weak positive correlation between internal control systems and the performance of Agricultural SMEs in Eastern Uganda. The weak prediction reflects the reality that there were other factors that influenced the performance of agricultural SMEs in Eastern Uganda. The study recommends additional research on the relationship between Informational Technology, agricultural mechanization, stability and availability of markets, participative management and agricultural SME performance.

Examines how the Kawuugulu Clan-Royal Musical Ensemble uses musical performance and storytelling to manage, structure, model, and legitimize power relations among the Baganda people of south-central Uganda.Tuning the Kingdom draws on oral and written accounts, archival research, and musical analysis to examine how the Kawuugulu Clan-Royal Musical Ensemble of the Kingdom of Buganda (arguably the kingdom's oldest and longest-surviving performance ensemble) has historically managed, structured, modeled, and legitimized power relations among the Baganda people of south-central Uganda. Damascus Kafumbe argues that the ensemble sustains a complex sociopolitical hierarchy, interweaving and maintaining a delicate balance between kin and clan ties and royal prerogatives through musical performance and storytelling that integrates human and nonhuman stories. He describes this phenomenonas "e;tuning the kingdom,"e; and he compares it to the process of tensioning or stretching Kiganda drums, which are always moving in and out of tune. The Raging Storm: A Reporter,s Inside Account of the Northern Uganda War, 1986-2005 is a highly personal and inside account of the northern Uganda war by a young woman whose early encounter with the conflict was as an on-the-ground war correspondent. Caroline Lamwaka,s experiences as a war-time journalist inform the narrative, the research and the broader perspective of an academically trained war and peace researcher. The book examines four phases of the northern Uganda war. These are: the war in Acholi, Lango and Teso; the peace efforts to end the war; the impact of the war; and coping with the impact of insurgency. Caroline Lamwaka joins other authentic voices examining the northern Uganda war.

Reexamines the first twenty years of the East African revival movement in Uganda, 1935-1955, arguing that through the movement African Christians articulated and developed a unique spiritual lifestyle.Starting in the mid-1930s, East African revivalists (or, Balokole: "e;the saved ones"e;) proclaimed a message of salvation, hoping to revive the mission churches of colonial East Africa. Frustrated by what they believed to be the tepid spiritual state of missionary Christianity, they preached that in order to be saved, converts had to confess publicly the specific sins they had committed, putting them "e;in the light."e; By "e;walking in the light"e; with other revival brethren, converts reoriented their lives, articulating this reorientation in the stark terms of light and darkness: they had left their dark past and now lived in the light of salvation. This book uses missionary and Colonial Office archives, contemporary newspapers, archival collections in Uganda, anthropologists' field notes, oral histories, and interviews by the author in order to reexamine the first twenty years of the East African revivalmovement (roughly, 1935-1955). Focusing upon the creative, controversial, and remarkable efforts of the ordinary African Christians who comprised the vast majority of the movement, it challenges previous historical analyses that have seen in the revival the replication of British evangelical holiness spirituality or, alternatively, a manifestation of late colonial dissent. Instead, this study argues, the Balokole revival was a movement through which African Christians articulated and developed a unique spiritual lifestyle, one that responded creatively to the sociopolitical contexts of late colonial East Africa.
