Das Buch beschäftigt sich mit einem in der Literaturwissenschaft nahezu vergessenen Autor des Expressionismus: Heinrich Schaefer. Der Band will die Biografie und literarische Entwicklung Heinrich Schaefers über den lückenhaft vorliegenden Faktenbefund hinaus erweitern. Er tut dies primär, um das literarische Werk Schaefers auf ein Motiv hin zu untersuchen, das in seinen Texten einen zentralen Stellenwert einnimmt ¿ das Motiv des Ekels. Dieses Ekelmotiv ist für Figurendarstellung, Dramaturgie und explizite Drastik in Schaefers Texten nicht nur Zentralmotiv, sondern in der Auslotung seiner anthropologischen und physiologischen Befunde die thematisch interessanteste Deutungslinie. Sie wird exemplarisch am Hauptwerk Heinrich Schaefers, dem zwischen 1911¿1913 entstandenen Roman Gefangenschaft, vorgestellt.

Eine intensive wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit den Familiendarstellungen in den Angestelltenromanen der Weimarer Republik ist bislang nicht erfolgt. Es ist die Motivation der vorliegenden Untersuchung, einen Beitrag zum Schließen dieser Forschungslücke zu leisten. Die Leitfrage lautet, wie und mit welcher Intention die Familien und andere persönliche Beziehungen in den Romanen dargestellt werden. Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass diese Darstellungen wesentliche Funktionen innerhalb der Romane übernehmen, da die Autorinnen und Autoren mit ihrer Hilfe die prekäre Situation der Familie und der Angestellten offenlegen, beide kritisch hinterfragen und auch Zusammenhänge herstellen. Dem soziologischen bzw. literatursoziologischen Interesse der Arbeit folgend dienen kontextorientierte Methodenansätze dabei als Grundlage.

This book examines the different forms of violence found in three plays by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh: The Beauty Queen of Leenane (1996), The Lieutenant of Inishmore (2001) and The Pillowman (2003). It can be seen that the writer works on the theme of violence constantly and recurrently, although the treatment of this theme varies and differs from one play to the next. The aim is to prove, through critical analysis, that McDonagh's writings are not a censure of Irish society, as suggested in various academic works; his plays are, in fact, a reflection on globalised society and the human beings who inhabit this global community.

In the context of the First Republic, intellectuals like Euclides da Cunha and military men like Marshal Cândido Rondon turned their eyes to the interior of Brazil. In republican schools, children learned geography from teaching programmes, textbooks and children's magazines. How do the representations of the territory produced in these two spaces converge or diverge? This is the theme investigated in this book.

This text consists of identifying literary elements with historical guidelines in eleven stories selected from three texts entitled Historia Secreta de Chile (Secret History of Chile) written by the Chilean Jorge Baradit. These narratives are framed in historical events that occurred in Chile between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries. Such stories, with historical glimpses, make up the analysis, the purpose of which is to elucidate the author's narrative style and identify elements typical of literature. Consequently, the study is preceded by a review of the cultural-literary framework in which literary and artistic terms such as postmodernism, contemporary literature and historical fiction are examined in depth, considering theorists from the 20th century onwards. In addition, an approach has been made to the artistic and literary movement known as Freak Power, to which the author Jorge Baradit belongs. Finally, four axes of analysis have been determined: discursive reconstruction between person-fact-character, symbolism of fire, dehumanisation of the self and recusation of the dictator. These themes are transversal in the stories chosen for this analysis.

Surrealistische Bilder faszinieren immer wieder ein großes Publikum. Thus, the research aims to understand, through literary analysis, the meanings put in the songs of Chico Buarque, in which he thematizes the female figure, conflicting with the fact that the female is considered a social marginality, in various periods of history.

Der vorliegende Band widmet sich erstmals Paul Tillichs Wirksamkeit in Dresden im Kontext der Intellektuellen-Diskurse der Weimarer Republik. Tillich wurde 1925 auf eine Professur für Religionswissenschaft an der Allgemeinen Abteilung der Sächsischen Technischen Hochschule Dresden berufen und lehrte bis 1929 in der Elbmetropole. In Dresden sind nicht nur grundlegende Werke wie Die religiöse Lage der Gegenwart (1926), Das Dämonische. Ein Beitrag zur Sinndeutung der Geschichte (1926) sowie die beiden Kairos-Bände (1926 und 1929) entstanden, auch seine bereits in Marburg begonnene Dogmatik erhielt hier ihre weitere Ausarbeitung. In fünf Sektionen - 1. Streit über die Weimarer Republik, 2. Dresdener Intellektuellenmilieus, 3. Dresdener philosophische Diskurse, 4. Kairos, Religion und Kultur: Theologische Zeitdeutung, 5. Theologische Diskurse in der Weimarer Republik - beleuchtet der Band die unterschiedlichen Facetten und Netzwerke in Tillichs Dresdener Zeit vor dem Hintergrund der Deutungskämpfe um die Weimarer Republik. Auf diese Weise bietet der Band Paul Tillich in Dresden eine erste umfassende Auseinandersetzung mit der Theologie und Religionsphilosophie Tillichs in der zweiten Hälfte der 1920er Jahre.

Die Forschung zur Weimarer Republik konzentriert sich vor allem auf die Städte, insbesondere Berlin; die Forschung zum Stifterwesen insbesondere auf das deutsche Kaiserreich. Das Werk behandelt einen beispiellosen Ausnahmefall jüdischen Mäzenatentums in der Zwischenkriegszeit auf dem Land. Der amerikanisch-jüdische Philanthrop James Loeb zog noch vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg auf einen Landsitz in Murnau im bayerischen Oberland. Während der Weimarer Republik finanzierte er u.a. das örtliche Kriegerdenkmal, eine gemeinnützige Baugenossenschaft, eine Mädchenschule, eine Wohltätigkeitsstiftung für Bedürftige, schließlich das örtliche Krankenhaus. Gleichzeitig entwickelte sich Murnau seit den frühen 1920er Jahren zu einer Hochburg des Nationalsozialismus, wo bereits (atypisch für Oberbayern) seit 1924 bei allen Reichs- und Landtagswahlen mehrheitlich völkisch bzw. nationalsozialistisch gewählt wurde. Das Buch blickt auf dieses Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Philanthropie und Rassenwahn.

A writer of passion and death, Duras can also be described as a writer of the intimate. As shown in the stories of the sixties, Moderato Cantabile, Ten and a half hours of the evening in summer, Hiroshima my love and The Ravishment of Lol V. Stein, the silence around which the texts are built, the mystery that surrounds the female characters and their feelings, are the sign of an "intimate" experience kept secret, internalized, never quite expressed. In these works, Duras tirelessly tries to penetrate the intimacy of the heroines by seeking to uncover and understand their experiences, this painful and personal history that remains buried. Duras will thus only write and rewrite the traumatic event lived by her heroines. The lack and the absence, omnipresent motives also associated with the female characters, turn out to echo an impossible mourning. While this process of rewriting is indicative of a quest for a solution, Duras seems far from having resolved the heroines' immemorial past, since absence, love and death are directly or indirectly linked to childhood, to the mother and to the death of the younger brother.

Sociologists and writers, all agreed on a common point of view: the family has changed, and even more so it is in crisis. I wanted to do a research on Hervé Bazin's novel, Qui j'ose aimer, because in his work, man is celebrated and the family is the central theme of all his novels. I will try to see how this family mutation in the broad sense is transposed in the novel and influences the relationships between all the members of the family. What I also found very interesting was the fact that the novel was about a matriarchal family (recomposed towards the end) and this phenomenon is similar to that of today where many women live alone or live only with their children, the traditional figure of the father not being so important anymore. The novel also deals with this problem of marriage, which is no longer defined as an institutional logic, an inescapable social obligation (as in the past), but rather as an emotional logic ("we love each other, we marry"). The traditional model, based on marriage, has been shattered.
