This guidebook describes the Stubai Rucksack Route (or Hohen Weg) and the Stubai Glacier Tour, two hut-to-hut trekking routes in the Stubai Alps in the Austrian Tyrol. Of all the many Alpine areas, few can match the Stubai as a venue for a first Alpine season. Shapely peaks, good paths and some of the best huts in the Alps make it ideal for the novice who wants to extend their experience beyond Britain. The Stubai Rucksack Route is an ideal route for the novice mountain walker, and links eight huts without crossing glaciers or difficult passes. The Stubai Glacier Route is a hut-to-hut tour through the best of the Stubai that crosses glaciers and has ample opportunities for ascents of easy peaks. Either route can be accomplished in eight to ten days. Both tours are given their own brief introduction with profiles of the route and other vital information to enhance your experience of each area. The routes are illustrated with colour photographs and sketch maps, and the introduction provides vital transport, language, accommodation and equipment information.

A guide to hut-to-hut trekking in the Hohe Tauern in Austria's Eastern Alps through the provinces of Tirol, Salzburg and Karnten in the Gross Glockner, Reichen and Venediger mountain groups. The Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest in Europe and a World Conservation Area. It is centred on the Gross Glockner, at 3798m Austria's highest mountain, closely followed by its near neighbour and third highest mountain the Gross Venediger 3660m. Each mountain group covered here has distinctive qualities and is serviced by some of the best huts in the Alps. The four hut-to-hut tours described here, including the recently opened 8-10 day Glockner Round Tour that links seven huts together without having to cross glaciers, explore them fully, and a two-week traverse of the whole park is also outlined. En route there is ample opportunity to climb some of the peaks and ascents and excursions are described. This book will appeal to groups of mixed ability and those looking to visit the Alps for the first time without the demands of the higher mountains of the western Alps. This is a compilation of articles written by Pierre Grimes, Ph.D. and the members of the Opening Mind Academy and The Noetic Society, Inc. The articles were not submissions, but requests and assignments by me. I get ideas for a story or a publisher sends a book to review, and then I look for the right person to write it. It might appear that New Perspectives was promoting this group and especially Dr. Grimes' work, but actually the articles and reviews just fit the moment or the "news of the day." I will say, though, that their interest in Dr. Grimes' work led many of the writers to try to fit something about him in no matter what the article or review might be about.
