This book examines country-specific institutional characteristics that promote/impede bank performance concluding that banking industries that comply less with developed market regulatory and supervision frameworks, are more concentrated and present higher levels of inflation and price regulation will obtain higher performance results, ceteris paribus. Moreover, highly reformatted banking industries will promote diversification of assets rather than traditional intermediation as a value generating banking activity. The results also show that the ranking of efficient government regulation of business will correlate with the positive ranking of country effects while the ranking that accounts for constraints on the flow of investment capital, banking efficiency, independence from government control, government interference in the financial sector, and price stability price controls will negatively correlate with country effects.
The aim of this book is to complement and deepen the literature concerned with the issue of ¿-convergence by using specific data that covers Romanian realities. More specifically, we seek to identify and quantify the drivers of value creation looking at regional level characteristics that describe the eight development regions of Romania. The book fills a gap in the existing literature by empirical testing sources of territorial development variability. To have a comprehensive understanding of the factors that generate well-being at the regional level we assess the impact of three value-creation drivers: heterogenous regional-specific human capital, endowment with social capital, ownership levels of businesses that operate in the creative industries sector.
The book intends to critically evaluate the publications concerning the history of the Jews from Romania and Hungary (1945-1953) identified in Romania and Hungary, providing a description of historical context where the Jewish community developed its activity in the aftermath of the Second World War, when it severely reduced in terms of numbers, destroyed as community in terms of state of health of its members and materially affected by the consequences of the war. Nevertheless, even in the first years after the war they tried to re-build as members of of their community and later on to collaborate with the communist party for a better status or emigration in Israel. The most important issue of the time was the emigration of Romanian Jews in Israel and the negotiations which were pursued with the view of reaching this objective. From the volume, it results that the Jews were rather victims of the communism than beneficiaries, as it was often considered. Through the intermediation of the books and articles and of the collaboration with Jewish community from Oradea, author succeeded to know the Jews which come with their culture and traditions to enrich the cultural variety.
