It is impossible to know where you are going if you do not know from whence you come. I devised this writing to preserve the knowledge of our genealogy. This book, a collection of my family's oral history given to me by grandmom and years of research, answers the question of where we came from, so that we can better answer the question of where we're going. With the proper knowledge of ourselves, we can tap into our personal greatness, and further the legacy of our bloodline. This task was put on my heart by the God I serve, now I offer this history in service to you. Enjoy!

The Payton family bore the brunt of their era's meaner twists: the Comstock Laws, the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, and World War II. None of it kept the seventh of eight Payton kids from relishing his early years in Colorado's Grand Valley. Wayne made a specialty of surviving calamity and forged himself a Crockett caliber boyhood. His explorations broadened when wartime brought family solvency in the form of shipyard jobs at San Francisco Bay but scattered the Payton boys across battlefields from Africa to Asia.

It is hard to define love or even trust to love. The greatest love we need is to love ourselves. We cannot love until we define our own self love. So many of us carry around the baggage of mistrust because someone has broken our heart. Also, the trauma we encounter on our journey can leave us broken and unable to love again. How do we love again or even trust again? I am hoping that in my own challenge to love or trust again, this person who miraculously appear in my life will help me to trust and love again. I hope all that I am seeking will be defined soon, as I ask the question, Is It Me or Is It God?
