"A Fountain Sealed" is an ancient fiction story book written by Anne Douglas Sedgwick. Set in early 20th-century England, the narrative dives into the lives of its protagonists, exposing the complicated nature of their interpersonal interactions and the secrets that link them together. Sedgwick's wonderful writing unfolds thru vividly sketched characters and evocative prose, transporting readers to a global wherein social standards and personal aspirations collide. Sedgwick skillfully examines subject matters of identity, responsibility, and the hunt of happiness thru the factor of view of her protagonist, Laura Fountain, producing an attractive tale with emotional depth and sincerity. As Laura navigates the challenges of connecting along with her family and the mysterious Gerald Scaife, audiences are lured into a web of intrigue and suspense, as secrets from the beyond threaten to get to the bottom of the fragile threads that preserve them together. "A Fountain Sealed" is a classic story of love and loss, redemption and forgiveness that transcends geographical barriers and time. Anne Douglas Sedgwick's excellent prose and enormous inquiry of the human psyche make this collection a need to-study for lovers of ancient fiction and psychological dramas equally.

The Encounter is a classic novel of love and self-discovery, written with Sedgwick's signature style of elegant prose and emotional depth.1915. Anne Douglas Sedgwick (Mrs. Basil de Selincourt), expatriate American writer whose best-selling fiction observed European and American cultural differences. Sedgwick writes that those familiar with the life of a famous modern philosopher will find a resemblance to his tragicomic love affair in the story of Ludwig Wehlitz and Persis Fennamy. The book begins: It was very still in the Pension Muller. The oil-lamp had been thriftily extinguished in the entrance hall an hour before, and it was two hours since the band had ceased playing in the Kur-Garten. The last murmurs of the little German watering-place, held in the shallow cup of its surrounding hills, came, irresolutely, lethargically, through the open window where Persis Fennamy sat, like the broken words of a child that falls asleep. The window was at the back of the pension and overlooked, from its top story, the gnarled old apple-trees in the garden below, where tin tables stood among untidy grass. lady Channice was waiting for her son to come in from the garden. The afternoon was growing late, but she had not sat down to the table, though tea was ready and the kettle sent out a narrow banner of steam. Walking up and down the long room she paused now and then to look at the bowls and vases of roses placed about it, now and then to look out of the windows, and finally at the last window she stopped to watch Augustine advancing over the lawn towards the house. It was a grey stone house, low and solid, its bareness unalleviated by any grace of ornament or structure, and its two long rows of windows gazed out resignedly at a tame prospect. The stretch of lawn sloped to a sunken stone wall; beyond the wall a stream ran sluggishly in a ditch-like channel; on the left the grounds were shut in by a sycamore wood, and beyond were flat meadows crossed in the distance by lines of tree-bordered roads. It was a peaceful, if not a cheering prospect. Lady Channice was fond of it. Cheerfulness was not a thing she looked for; but she looked for peace, and it was peace she found in the flat green distance, the far, reticent ripple of hill on the horizon, the dark forms of the sycamores. Her only regret for the view was that it should miss the sunrise and sunset; in the evenings, beyond the silhouetted woods, one saw the golden sky; but the house faced north, and it was for this that the green of the lawn was so dank, and the grey of the walls so cold, and the light in the drawing-room where Lady Channice stood so white and so monotonous.

A much-overlooked collection of long stories, all based on different types of flowers. An ingenious, Heminway-esque collection of very interesting, hard-to-put-down tales. Anne Douglas Sedgwick (28 March 1873 - 19 July 1935) was an American-born British writer. The daughter of a businessman, she was born in Englewood, New Jersey but at age nine her family moved to London. Although she made return visits to the United States, she lived in England for the remainder of her life. Her novels explored the contrast in values between Americans and Europeans. Her best-selling novel Tante was made into a 1919 film, The Impossible Woman and The Little French Girl into a 1925 film of the same name. In 1931, she was elected to the United States National Institute of Arts and Letters. Four of her books were on the list of bestselling novels in the United States for 1912, 1924, 1927, and 1929 as determined by the New York Times.

"I LOVE this window," said Antonia, walking down the drawing-room; "and this one. They both look over the moors, you see. This view is even lovelier." She stopped at the end of the long room, and the young man with the pale face and the limping step followed and looked out of the third window with her. "But-I don't know why-I hate it. I wish it weren't here." Captain Saltonhall looked out and said nothing. "I wonder if you see what I mean," said Antonia. "No; I don't. I like it." The young man spoke gently and with something of a drawl, unimpressed, apparently, by her antipathy and putting up the back of a placid forefinger to stroke along the edge of his moustache. "One gets the hills, peaceful and silvery; one gets the walled garden and the cedar," she enumerated. "The little pond with its fountain is as serene as a happy dream. It's all like a happy dream. Yet-I wish there weren't this window here."
