A collection of sonnets about life and love. For the people who read my poems and say, "I've felt like that before, but I couldn't express with words what I was feeling."
A collection of poems about love and life. Annie Johnson's poems speak to the reader about the emotions of a life well lived. They paint pictures with words, leaving the reader thinking, "Yes, I have felt like that."
I have been a poetry lover all my life, and I have been writing poetry for 62 years. I love all the classical poets and their words and have many personal favorites, among which is Shelley, Keats, Yeats, Teasdale, Browning, Burns, Hardy, Dickinson and Dylan Thomas. All of them inspired my writing and filled my soul with poetic fire. I hope that my poetry, in some way, touches the soul of those who read it.

In 1883, life is simple for two sisters who live on a farm outside the Quaker village of Hadley, Indiana. The girls go to school in a one room school house and study in the light of coal oil lamps. Their father has Bible reading and evening prayer before they retire to bed. Young Livvy expects life on the farm to change when her sister gets married. Change strikes sooner than anyone expected. When her Mattie is murdered before her eyes, Livvy goes into a state of shock and lies in a coma for three days. When she awakens, she has no memories of what has happened to her beloved Mattie. She doesn't remember that she had a sister at all.For five years, the ghost of her sister appears to her. She accepts the ghost as a guardian angel who watches over her. When Livvy is on the brink of getting married herself, the truth of Mattie's murder is reveled.
This book is a collection of my poetry from my earliest efforts to my latest. I am a mood writer and write when the mood strikes me - which may or may not be often. I have had many muses during my life as a poet and couldn't have written without them. A poet finds inspiration in many ways - unconventional ways to those who are not writers. We are strange creatures in the way we are able see a face in a fallen leaf or the universe reflected in a puddle. The Heavens filled with bright stars and moonlight are a constant inspiration to me. I hope you enjoy my humble poetry and that it enables you to feel above and beyond this plane of existence and that some of them strike a similar cord within your sacredness of being.
Sometimes adults never let go of the childhood pain caused by someone they loved dearly: especially a woman whose daddy walked out on her at a young age. Sometimes she remains chained to the pain of trying to figure out what love really is and how a man should love her-things fathers should always prepare their daughters for. "The Kiss That Almost Killed Me" will take you on a roller-coaster ride that forces you to deal with different emotions. How you choose to handle the experience is entirely up to you. Often, we put ourselves in situations and relationships without consulting God, mainly because we get impatient, envious, and too stubborn to do things the right way, and we don't get to choose the consequences. In this book, my prayer is that you will receive wisdom, forgiveness, and answers to unknown questions you may have pondered about. Please allow this book to minister to you and to encourage you to keep pushing, trust God, and know that everything has a way of working itself out in due time. "The Kiss That Almost Killed Me" is a work of fiction from the Annie Johnson Collection.
