Love or Pride is a novel adapted from the Swedish original by Annie Wood in 1873. The story revolves around two main characters, a wealthy young man named Eric and a poor but beautiful young woman named Gerda. Eric is infatuated with Gerda and wants to marry her, but Gerda is hesitant because of her lowly status and feels that Eric's pride will not allow him to accept her as his equal. As the story progresses, Gerda's fears are proven right as Eric's pride and arrogance cause him to mistreat her and eventually drive her away. The novel explores themes of love, pride, and social class, and offers a commentary on the importance of humility and respect in relationships.
