Aristoteles’ skrift "Athens forfatningshistorie" er ikke blot et spændende stykke politisk historie fra demokratiets vugge. Det giver også et usædvanligt indblik i en af den vestlige verdens største filosoffers syn på politik og demokrati.Denne udgave er oversat og annoteret af Karl Hude, der supplerer skriftet med uddybende og forklarende noter, der gør "Athens forfatningshistorie" tilgængelig for de fleste læsere."Athens forfatningshistorie" er formentligt skrevet i 320’erne f.Kr. Denne oversættelse udkom første gang i 1892.Aristoteles (384 f.Kr. - 322 f.Kr.) var en græsk filosof, der anses for at være en af den vestlige verdens mest indflydelsesrige tænkere. Han var elev på Platons akademi, men hans tanker adskilte sig på flere måder fra hans mesters. Aristoteles mente, at man skulle nærme sig naturen med åbent sind for at undersøge den og ikke som Platon se naturen og den fysiske verden som en flygtig og ufuldstændig spejling af ideernes fuldkomne verden.Aristoteles er blandt andet kendt for at have undervist Alexander den Store og for grundlæggelsen af sin egen skole, Lykeion, hvis bibliotek blandt andet indeholdt 58 bystatsforfatninger.
