This is one of Disreali's best novels, not as a story, but as a study of men, manners, and principles. The plot is slight - little better than a device for stringing together sketches of character and statements of political and economic opinions; but these are always interesting and often brilliant. The motive which underlies the book is political. It is, in brief, an attempt to show that the political salvation of England was to be sought in its aristocracy, but that this aristocracy was morally weak and socially ineffective, and that it must mend its ways before its duty to the state could be fulfilled. Interest in this aspect of the book has, of course, to a large extent passed away with the political conditions which it reflected. As a picture of aristocratic life in England in the first part of the nineteenth century it has, however, enduring significance and charm.

Sybil is a novel with a thesis, which was meant to create a furor over the squalor that was plaguing England's working class cities. The general reader whose attention has not been specially drawn to the subject which these volumes aim to illustrate, the Condition of the People, might suspect that the Writer had been tempted to some exaggeration in the scenes which he has drawn and the impressions which he has wished to convey. He thinks it therefore due to himself to state that he believes there is not a trait in this work for which he has not the authority of his own observation, or the authentic evidence which has been received by Royal Commissions and Parliamentary Committees.

""Venetia"" is a novel written by Benjamin Disraeli, published in 1837. The story is set in 1830s England and follows the life of Venetia, a beautiful and intelligent woman who lives in the countryside with her father. Venetia is independent and unconventional, and her father allows her to pursue her interests in literature and philosophy. When Venetia meets the charming and wealthy Oswald, she is immediately drawn to him. However, she soon discovers that he is engaged to her sister, and she must navigate her feelings for him while trying to support her sister's happiness. As the story unfolds, Venetia becomes involved in the politics of the time, including the Reform Act of 1832 and the struggle for workers' rights. She also discovers a family secret that threatens to upend her world. ""Venetia"" is a novel that explores themes of love, duty, and social change in 19th century England. Disraeli's vivid descriptions of the English countryside and his insightful portrayal of the characters make this a timeless classic. When the hours of study were past, the children, with that zest for play which occupation can alone secure, would go forth together, and wander in the park. Here they had made a little world for themselves, of which no one dreamed; for Venetia had poured forth all her Arcadian lore into the ear of Plantagenet; and they acted together many of the adventures of the romance, under the fond names of Musidorus and Philoclea. Cherbury was Arcadia, and Cadurcis Macedon; while the intervening woods figured as the forests of Thessaly, and the breezy downs were the heights of Pindus. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
