Donal Cameron was killed at San Juan Hill in Cuba, but Donal Cameron was coming home. Both father and son shared the same name. Both had served with Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders, but only one was coming home. Everyone was anxious to know which one it was.
The big range kings didn't want Donal Cameron and his small, tough Circle C outfit anywhere near them. But Donal was stubborn and Scotch and had his own ideas about what he would and would not do, and he didn't propose to give up his cattle or his men or his kind of life without a struggle. A showdown was inevitable, and though the odds were nearly insurmountable against them -- Donal, a handful of his men, a trader and an Apache boy -- the Circle C moved in -- to stay. There was shooting in the dark, narrow streets of town, dry-gulching, and hand-to-hand fighting in the thickets and canyons before Donal and his gallant band won the day, and victory, when it came, was as much of a surprise to Donal as to anyone.
